Love the ending. It is honorable and wonderful that Mr. Corbyn stands for what he believes in and isn't afraid or ashamed to admit that he is a Socialist. I live in the U.S. and the very mention of Socialism is poison here. Bernie Sanders was supposed to change that for us, but has recently denounced his Socialist past. Glad to see that Jeremy sticks by his.
@loucious229 жыл бұрын
+Serenadesong In what way? He still calls himself a democratic socialist
@Serenadesong9 жыл бұрын
loucious22 Lately he has been referring to himself as a "Progressive" more than a Democratic Socialist, and the two terms are different, even though I know that some people confuse them. He did state recently that he wasn't a Capitalist on "Meet the press", but then at the Democratic debates when he was cornered with the question by Anderson Cooper, he slightly changed over to "I'm not a 'casino' Capitalist". So honestly it is impossible to know where he stands. He's mixing it up a lot, I think because "Socialist" is still feared and considered "dirty and evil" in the U.S. His advisers are probably coaching him to be cautious so that he can win votes. But still - the back and forth is setting the stage for disaster in my humble opinion. He should stick with the label he believes in and wants to live by. Those who support him will then support him honestly.

+Serenadesong Nice to be reminded that Socialism is still alive in the capital of Capitalism! Jack London's " The Iron Heel " is one of my favourite books.
@Serenadesong9 жыл бұрын
phil jones Well sadly I wish that it were more alive than it is! I am probably one of just a few. I actually haven't read that book yet, but it's on my list!
@philjones33469 жыл бұрын
+Serenadesong Even if you are, the dream is alive! The Iron Heel is inspirational. It is written many centuries in the future when Socialism has triumphed and the look-backs to the madness of Capitalism are wonderful to read. You simply must get a copy!

+Deos if he does that it will fail they tried it before and it didnt work it ended in disaster best thing he can do is convince them or ignore them
@eradeziel9 жыл бұрын
+Deos I think the Tory-lite MP's will either end up convinced in a lot of areas or really they should start questioning whether they're in the right party. Any of those still supporting Blair and the New Labour legacy within a genuine socialist movement need to find their own identity as some kind of 'petite bourgeoisie', and stop pretending they're really not a lot different to the Tories.

+chaz STIGLITZ this is the thing. I don't even recognize Corbyn as communist or far left. if you read his policies you will see that most of them are supported by people on the left and right of the political spectrum. For example nationalisation of the railways, ending financial support for corrupt foreign regimes etc.

He is an inspiration. Can it be that there is a politician who can speak honestly, with compassion, reason and humanity? And who's' not afraid to say publicly that he's proud to be a socialist? Wonderful.
@blitza_61896 жыл бұрын
He should be afraid to be a socialist! There has been more than enough evidence to prove that anyone who persues socialism is down right evil. The 20th century is full of examples of how socialism is amongst the worst societies imaginable
@adorno_gang376 жыл бұрын
BLITZA_ The USSR highly raised living standards, ended the cycle of famines that had been going on for centuries, doubled the average life expectancy, made education and healthcare free for all, managed to make almost its entire population literate, fought sexual and racial inequalities, played a mayor role in saving Europe from Nazism and went from a backwards monarchic shithole to a developed industrial society in a much shorter time span than capitalism has EVER accomplished, all that without the child labour and slave-tier working times that were typical for capitalism. Were mistakes made? Yes. "Amongst the worst societies imaginable"? That statement just goes to show your ignorance on the subject. Even in the most failed and corrupt socialist states such as Ceausescu's Romania I'd argue the situation was an improvement compared to the pre-socialist setup.

So could I. I'd like to hear him justify his support for the North Korean regime. He wants to stop a unified capitalist Korea - because he supports 'international' socialism. In NK they have tortured children to death in camps and fed their bodies to gulag guard dogs. What a lovely man.

the individual is the ultimate means of production, when you have a job you sell your labor to a company voluntarily in exchange for resources. Do you not own your own labor? In other words does someone else have the right to take those resources you have earned through your labor?
