I totally get his point. We still need to evolve to a post-technology place where it can exist in our world without running our lives, or without us letting it do so. I've tried things like social media in the past and I've always left it behind after a time or not used it as much as others because it's never sat well with me. I always feel much more comfortable being in nature, outside, and interacting with people in real life and in real time. The Internet can be a tool to assist in that connection with human beings, but nothing beats actually being with another person, it's a different thing entirely. So is going to a shop to buy something as opposed to browsing online, etc. We can use technology, but we can't let it be the only way we interact with the world.

Funny point but compare this interview to the scene towards the end of Margin Call where he plays the CEO of a bank talking with Kevin Spacey’s character about capitalism and the idea of money. “It’s just money, it’s made up. Pieces of paper with pictures on it so we don’t have to kill each other just to get something to eat.” Even the CEO realizes how ridiculous, greedy and fast the world they live in is.

I was expecting something kinda embarassing and funny from the title but it's all just a genuine viewpoint put forward in a calm manner... I get where he's coming from and it's very common amongst the older generation for a very long time. Basically societies expectations of people rise along with what is possible with new technology but in turn technology is expanding our potential. I kinda agree with what he says in that there are mega corporations and millions of dollars is moving about every second. Like it's kinda intimidating in what a big company earns in a few minutes could set you for life as a person. There are now people that are so wealthy that they have as much money as whole countries.

You know...you don't actually HAVE to spend all your time online, on social media sites. You can still go for a walk in the woods, watch a movie, make a blanket, sew some clothes, hang out with your loved ones. It's not the tech that's the problem...it's the people who overuse, abuse, and so on. Used in moderation like a tool, "screens" are no more harmful than books, or hobbies, or fitness routines. They CAN make our lives easier and better in some ways, for instance, I no longer have to figure out how to get to the library to do research because I can find accurate and reliable sources online. I can even talk to the librarians online. This has been so handy both during COVID isolations and cancer treatment isolation and debilitation. So...Mr. Irons...you kinda need to get this into perspective. The harm is in the people, not the tools. ;)
