I feel like the error Jeremy made regarding the M1 being extended is because of the A1M that goes off from it at Leeds and that continues all the way up to Gateshead. M6 meanwhile is from near Rugby to just south of the Scottish Border

I honestly thought the A1 would come up as an answer. But yes, I would've gone for M6 because I've been on it (From the valleys of South Wales to Edinburgh - 8 hours via car) countless times and it's an absolute fucker of a motorway. I remember about 3/4 years ago, I was going to Edinburgh with my parents to spend time with relatives and the M6 was shut off due to maintenance or whatever, which meant every car for that route had to go take the country lanes and it was a bloody nightmare, it was a lot worse when tractors got in the way.

I keep forgetting they use miles in the UK. As an American this is so strange to me, 'cuz I thought only WE used miles. She shouldn't have told the phone a friend what she thought it was. He might have guessed something else. I kind of had a feeling it was the M6, 'cuz they didn't discuss that one too much. Honestly, I don't think Jeremey has any reason to beat himself up. I think his method of working it out was great, and you could tell he really wanted to get it. it's still impressive that he knew what he knew. Who the hell just knows this? Even looking at map, won't get you an accurate distance. Especially since highways are extended frequently or merge into other highways. Whatever! I'm not mad she lost. She's irritating as hell!

We use a mixture in the UK so distance we usually use miles for, but for smaller meaurements we usually use CM/M unless you're over a certain age then they may be more likeley to use inches and feet still. For liquids we almost mostly use litres, and for weight we mostly use grams and kilos except for weighing ourselves, which we mostly use pounds and stone still.

It's different now as they have a Rep with each potential Phone A Friend so the friend does not pretend to be surprised but can anyone answer me this? In the old days when the show was recorded, sometimes, days b4 it went out , how come EVERY time the phone a friend answered the phone out of 1,000 Phone A Friends. All 1,000 answered. They were never out. Would not have known when the phone would ring as it was not always LIVE and could have been one of 20 calls that day and there might be a Family of 6 any of whom could have answered the phone because WHEN they answered they would always express SURPRISE.....????????

It was never LIVE, always prerecorded. I suspect BT (or who ever WWTBAM phone provider was) supplied a dedicated phone only for that purpose. They would have been notified of the recording schedule and advised to be on call during that time. If they were unable/unwilling to be on standby at that time the contestant would need to provide a replacement.
