I definitely found Paul's arc to be a bit...rushed? I wished the movie focused more on his internal struggle of being plagued by visions and knowing the terrible outcomes, being the only one who knows what must be done but to get there atrocities must be performed. We got like one scene maybe and then he was just "SILENCE" pilled

I don't know if Jeremy reads these comments, if they're brought to his attention or not, but let me say, thank you for having an opinion I trust. Many critics pander to agendas for invites to events, don't want to step on toes because of social nonsense... All the stuff that KZbin viewers argue about, movie companies blame their failure on, but there is one undeniable fact, many movie fans no longer trust critics, no longer buy tickets to movies that were made for specific groups rather than the largest number of people and as a result a startling number of theaters have closed their doors... I don't always agree with Jeremy, but I have always trusted his sincerity... If more critics were honest and real about the quality of movies like Jeremy is maybe the theater system might stand a better chance at continuing. Thank you Jeremy for doing your job.

honestly, the only major gripe i had with the movie is how they handled Raban's character towards the end with Gurney. i was expecting an awesome, bad-ass fight between them, but it just ends with Gurney killing Raban in a matter of a few seconds. kind of a bummer, but overall i gotta say: Dune Part 2 might just be one of the greatest sci-fi epics i've ever seen, and Denis Villeneuve solidified himself as one of the greatest directors working today.

*spoiler* my only gripe in the movie is how paul struggled against feyd in their duel, in the books the fight was basically a walk in the park for paul and he didnt even break a sweat, i guess ill chalk it up to the movie trying to make the antagonists more menacing and maybe related to paul directly as he is struggling whether he should kill feyd and basically propel his vision forward to the future that he is so scared to make.

Havent read the book so I can't talk to the lore accuracy or cut content. But as a movie watcher who saw Dune 1 twice when it came out, I think this movie is a 9/10. It only lost a point for two reasons. 1. I can't take Zendaya seriously in any role except MJ - all she can play is a broody american teen. She felt so out of place compared to the rest of the Fremen with her face, accent, and speech mannerisms, especially with Stilgar's stellar performance. He's exactly like the uncles and grandfathers in the communities I grew up in. Meanwhile Zendaya feels like a 21st century person dropped into a timeless story. 2. The time period that Paul Atreides was with the Fremen was seemingly only 9 months (because a pregnancy that started when he joined hadnt been delivered by the time he rose to power). It just seems way too short of a time period for him to learn their ways and build trust (and love with Shani). I've heard that in the books it was 2-3 years, which makes a lot more sense (but still makes his feat of learninf their ways impressive in a short time).
@vivek06media6 ай бұрын
Great, epic, but flawed, not a masterpiece. People calling it the best sequel ever is exaggeration. Sudden character arc, rushed climax, doesn't payoff major characters, Zendaya performance was the weakest link. But still an awesome cinematic experience. Hans Zimmer lifted the key moments of the film, gorgeous cinematography and VFX, art direction, makeup and costumes were on point, deserves to be seen in the biggest screen possible. But when we praise the technical aspects of the film at first, it means writers or editors lacked some points.
@barppoots43786 ай бұрын
Yes! To me the entire movie felt rushed. We really need like a 4 hour cut. Unfortunately that will probably never happen.
@vivek06media6 ай бұрын
@@barppoots4378 felt that this was a satirical reply to my review? 😄 Anyways, I won't mind a 4 hr. cut either if it's well edited and adds to the story and dives deep in the primary characters. All the main antagonists in the film didn't got a fitting end and were just way too rushed. Like, Dave Bautista's character was criminally under used, I was expecting a lot from Rabban, he died in just one blow, wtf ?? Vladimir (Skarsgard) had a good enough screen presence but the way he went down was not justified, moreover, Paul stabbing him in the neck and accepting the fact that he died too easily, was just weak writing. As if writers realised that they aren't satisfied with their material but went ahead with it. Film could have been way better.

As a huge fan of Lynch’s Dune, despite its well documented flaws and story liberties. I must say that having seen both of the new Dune films in IMAX. I’m impressed and at the same time perplexed with DV’s vision of Dune. As with most great films, the more I watch the more I understand, accept and embrace it. Looking forward to the 4k release of Part Two so I can really let it sink in with multiple viewings. I can only imagine what Lynch’s Dune would have been if the studio would have not interfered and forced him to make a condensed shortened version. He originally wanted and needed multiple films but was denied by the studio. DV was very fortunate to have the studio back his vision and gave him license to make the film he wanted to. I’m just glad we got at least one Dune film from Lynch. I think it’s a cinematic masterpiece like no other sci-fi movie of its era. It’s unfortunate that’s it’s so often ridiculed by some. “The Sleeper has awoken!”

@Jeremy Jahns I love most of your movie reviews, but here, walking into the theater I would have LOVED IT if you had warned me that this movie had the SAME SLOW PACE than part 1, and "not so much action" either... Basically, I loved part 1, and walked in with the expectation that there would be A LOT LESS EXPOSITION and SLOW PACE due to the fact that they had already sat us through all that exposition and slow pace in part 1... For me I loved part 1 way more than part 2... I didn'T care much for the characters in part 2 as opposed to part 1... There were a lot more cheesy/free/illogical/fast events in part 2 than in part 1 and although the visuals were amazing like they were in part 1, what prevented me from enjoying this one as much was really the slow boring pace and the 180 degrees shift in the paul and Jessica due to the water they drank... I mean, sure... its probably in the book, but I liked Paul and Jessica WAY MORE BEFORE they drank than after...

SPOILERS! I liked this movie enough to go watch it again on a bigger IMAX screen. I think it's one of the best scifi action films I have ever seen. It was emotionally satisfying with EPIC cinematography and fantastic action. My 3.5 quibbles are: 1. The editing in the beginning was too quick, especially during the transition to the emperor and the princess. 2. Zendaya is so out of her acting league, when she screams something like "I'm doing it for MY people not for him!" I just about laughed out loud at her amateurish delivery. (Also, that heavy breathing during her big battle scene: rolls eyes) At least she wasn't the only one wearing FLIP FLOPS like in the first movie. 3. The Harkonnens and especially the Sardaukar were totally nerfed in this this film. The only Fremen I remember dying were shot down from an ornithopter during the first spice harvester attack. I don't remember any dying in hand to hand combat. 3.5 I want the Fremen to always be training in the background of every scene. Or show some other way that they become "unstoppable desert warriors" besides just sitting around all the time. Bonus gripe: Christopher Walken was completely miscast as the emperor (maybe Ralph Fiennes?) And yeah, I wanted it to be longer also. I was afraid we would not see much of Rebecca Ferguson based on her being mostly missing from all the trailers. Also also, yes to GREIG FRASER GREIG FRASER GREIG FRASER GREIG FRASER!

About Dune 1 ... I just rewatched Dune part one. What a masterpiece! I know, it's not the movie for everyone, but the ambient, music, ... just fenomenaly special. I remember when i watched in the theater for the first time, i was not so exited about that movie when i left the theater. Something was missing. I know now what after i rewatched? Part two an three :) I higly recomend this movie. In a time, when a good blocbuster is very rear, this is like a blessing, that you don't wana miss out. The movie is the ultimate expierience for theater. The sound, the landscape, great characters/actors, which they play, ... fantastic version of the Dune. Epic. It's been heard a lot lately that there have been enough superhero movies for a while. But Dune proves the exact opposite. Yes, Dune is a superhero movie also. But Dune is a quality film also. So, there is never enough quality superhero movies. Like Spiderman verse, Dark Knight, Endgame, ... Dune. This is the way. Is enough of stupid superhero movies and series. That's i agree. Mostly from AI scripts? And with an agenda... like Birds of pray, The Marvels, Madame Web, She-hulk, Morbius, Secret Invasion... they only do harm to the genre. They are ruining his reputation.

The conversations about the Dune novels, the several movie adaptations, and the series on the SyFy network are as complex and layered as the story itself. If not for David Lynch’s adaptation, starring Kyle MacLachlan as Paul & Sting as Feyd-Rautha, my childhood self would never have known about the stories. IMO, the SyFy network series were closer to the source material but they lacked the visual effects necessary to adapt the novels onto a visual format (tv/movies). These latest installments of the Dune saga pulled out all the stops with a stellar cast, amazing DP & CGI teams, and of course Denis Villeneuve! I know that many of the scenes were cut for time as typical when adapting books to movie/tv, but I had a great time watching this iteration of Dune! It might not be the same as the books, but this Dune shows that good films based on books can be done if you hire the right people!

To be fair, the Emperor Shaddam IV didn't have a lot of pages in the book. He was more of a lurking menace than a prime character. He has a few dialogs with other characters and then the direct conclusive scene at the end.
@smittyjjensin5587 ай бұрын
Yeah the Dune 1984 movie made the emperor front and center which I think confuses a lot of people who didnt read the book. Same with the Baron, hes not in the book as much in the second half which explains why he isnt in this one as much.
@jonascastejon58887 ай бұрын
He has more dialogue in the "prequels", especially in House Corrino, but they obviously don't count as they're not canon. In fact, none of Herbert's son books are. Edit: Same goes for the Baron, who in House Harkonnen was an Adonis and got that present bloated form from a Bene Gesserit who he graped. So that book "explains" why he's like that in the canon series. Thufir Hawat also has a lot more "screentime" in House Atreides which to me was its only saving grace because he barely speaks in the canon series. "Seeing" Lady Jessica as a young acolyte (If my memory serves me right she wasn't a fully professed Sister yet when she first met Leto) in that book was also a plus.

This isn't an adaptation. It's more like a complete retelling. All the major plot points have been changed entirely. Alia is never born. Chani never gets pregnant, so Leto II is never born and killed by the emperor's men. Paul kills the Baron HIMSELF. Count Hasimir Fenring doesn't even exist. Thufir Hawat is not in this movie or even ever mentioned again. They left out the best line in the entire series "Try looking into that place where you dare not look. You'll find me there, staring out at you." Chani is a girl boss and doesn't want to be Pauls concubine, so she runs off into the desert. It hardly made any sense considering all Fremen men have multiple wives. Please don't read the books first and watch this because you will not enjoy it. This movie could have been 45 minutes shorter without all the slomo walking and deep stares.

@@Romo69here's a suggestion, try to go during a weekday during the day rather than at night on a weekend. For some reason, we see going to the movies as a 7pm and later activity on weekends only. I'm a firm believer going on a Wednesday morning at 10 AM is the way to do it. You'll have the entire theater room to yourself, and once the movie is over you'll have the day to yourself. Going later in the day will have you thinking "oh man, I want to go to the grocery store then go to the gym then do XYZ task but I have to make sure I get it all done before I go to the theater tonight". Watching movies at the start of the day leaves you with the rest of the day running errands. If you work a 9-5 Monday-Friday you're probably out of luck though. I'd still try going early on the weekends, should be much less people than going after 5pm. Also, 90% of theaters now require you to buy tickets in advance. Check online what the seating looks like and go when it's sort of empty. Another trick, wait about a week or two before watching it, if you really cannot go early in the day. I'm an avid movie goer, and I've had no negative experiences lately besides the Five Nights at Freddy's movie but that's to be expected, as the movies main audience was children.
