I hear what you’re saying. My guitar journey over the past 60 years has been well over 150 guitars. Most were cool to try, play for a while, some I’m sorry I let go, but I’m glad I had them. I’m down to 6 now, but I’m always looking . The journey continues. Cheers.

Budget is the main driver for me, with one exception: I have 10 guitars. All of them are $500 or less, with the exception of my Martin D-28. I wanted one, really nice guitar and that fits the bill. I love the tone.

Thanks, Jeremy! The hardest ones for me to part with were those with truly sentimental value. At my age, ergonomics is now the driving factor in my guitar purchases. So in 2020, I reduced my guitar collection (in one day) from 20+ to just one. I have since commissioned two more guitars to address my ergonomic and sonic needs and wants, and I feel much better about my much smaller and more focused guitar collection.

I’m down to a point where every guitar has sentimental value and that’s why I keep them (except one bass for recording purposes and one acoustic as a beater guitar). It’s quite freeing only having guitars that mean something to you. It means my collection is at 5 electrics, 3 acoustics and 2 basses. It’s honestly still more than I need but they all mean a lot so it’s the perfect collection for me!

It was wonderful to listen to you today ! I love these videos! I’m looking forward to the next one! Are you still searching for that Olson? I found one about 6 years ago. It is spectacular. I was in the studio working on a new album and took three guitars. Murphy lab J 200, and Advance Jumbo and the Olson. After recording a couple songs, I took the Olson out and the technician went nuts for the tone. Said he had never heard anything like it. This sure is fun! God bless you, my friend!

With 30 guitars in my collection of over 48 years of acquiring with ranges from a 1965 Fender Precision bass, Custom Martin DC Aura and PRS 35th Anniversary Custom 24 down to a Guild Surfliner HH that I grabbed for $269 new, my belief is buy what you enjoy to play. Everyone of my guitars offer something different to inspire my playing. I actually tend to enjoy the guitars I've bought under 1K more because of the "bang for the buck". Buy what you like as long as you don't go into debt for it. Even though I can afford guitars in the 5 figures, I can't justify spending that amount considering the unbelievable quality of inexpensive guitars available in today's market.

I have over 20 guitars at the moment. I have found my two favorite acoustics. A Waterloo and a J-45. If I could figure out the two perfect electrics I would be so happy to get rid of all the others. It is just so much easier to buy than it is to sell. But I have been wanting to get rid of them all for a while now.

My standards: The neck fits my hand. I can play it and I do play it. “Excellence” for me mixes being able to afford them, yet they’re great examples of what they are. The Martin 000-15s is the perfect example. Finally, each of the four is unique and fills a slot in a balanced set for the music I can make.
I may be wrong about this, but I believe you like Guild.

I’m at 40+ with some great guitars and some that are still projects. I do look it as I don’t play golf. I dont collect cars. Guitars are my hobby and I try and play them as much as I can and when I find I’m not I tend to sell them. I started sitting down and being more intentional about what I bought to avoid duplication and the impulse buys. I’ve also found sometimes as much as you try your not as Into some guitars even when you try (strats for me, I’m down to one) I also have had some older vintage acoustics restored (harmony 1260, old Kay jumbos) and there is some joy seeing a guitar that had almost been thrown away brought back to life.

I bought two surprise guitars this year, but I feel they’ve really “completed” my collection. (haha) But yeah, other than a couple I have for purely sentimental reasons and one I haven’t gotten around to selling yet (anyone want a vintage Craviola 12 string?), I feel like every guitar I have contributes to the collection, and gets played regularly. And the only brand (much less model) I have more than one of is Mossman - I have a 6 string and a 12 string Mossman.

I’ve also gotten into a habit of bringing one of my really great guitars along to stores when I’m even half-assed looking. If a guitar can’t in some way beat, say, my ‘68 D-18, it doesn’t get to join the club. I want to immediately fall in love, and be blown away by how good it is.

It kept me alive and I gigged with it for decades. ...etc The 3 I played today are in Martin Adirondack over mahogany and an Eastman E-40 OM TC which Herold Haines bought first...a bit heavy but great tone and beautiful.
