I am new to cigars and bought a pack of 5 AJ Fernandez cigars at £110, and used (recommended by the store) the crapy plastic single blade cutter he mentions at 7:18. I nearly lost two cigars as it squashed them and the first one unravelled. I will invest in the second cutter he demonstrates. As a chef I have very sharp knives and used one of those to carefully cut off the cap and worked really well as I only took off a little. Great vid 👍👍👍

I’ve been smoking cigars since I was 24 years old. I’m 52 going on 53 and I have to say, it’s the most enjoyable relaxing experience outside of fishing that I do (cigars and fishing and some whiskey is my trifecta!). I had always used the standard guillotine style cutter but I’ve recently been using a V-cutter and I greatly prefer this style over the other options! I’ve been considering that Colibri V-cutter for a while. You’re correct on getting a high quality cutter! You may spend a little more but the cut quality is more satisfying and the blade steel is usually higher quality which means the blade will stay sharp longer. Thanks for such an informative video!

11:07 The amount of open surface area will help control how much air you can draw, which affects how hot the smoke is (so long as the draw isn't plugged or too tight). The more air you draw in ( and the speed of which you do so) determines how hot the cigar burns. If it burns too hot it won't taste very good.

Went from a Straight cut, to a punch, to a V cut, settled on the V. The Colibri V-shown in this video is excellent! They (Colibri) also make a S&V cutter a bit more pricey but it works excellently. One thing I always keep in mind when selected my cut is the length of the smoke. I enjoy a tight draw, but in a larger cigar, I'll ensure a decent amount of air flow to prevent tar from building up toward the end of the cigar. I hate that bitter taste to the extent that I'll periodically blow out on the cigar to keep the smoke from lingering inside it too long.

Been a YT addict since it started & this is the first cigar vid I've seen! I had to quit cigars. I got tired of paying $120+ for a box & not being able to smoke some due to being rolled in a hurry or by a rookie. There's no way to fix a too tight roll. Tons of great ones out there. Go with something in maybe the 6-8 dollar range. Don’t want to spend too much Incase you don’t like it. A Drew Estate Undercrown is a nice smooth smoke. I am also moistening the end and prefer my cutters sharp. Those are excellent tips. Just you Americans are basically pampered by the quality of Non-Cuban cigars. Lately there are severe quality issues and there is almost always an issue with airflow. For that reason alone I cut deeper. Yes and risking the wrapper coming off. What helps, though, is a V cutter or a drill. Airflow can be improved additionally by cigar files (not sure if I am using the right term here). Great video. Great style.

If you use a Perfect Cutter on a torpedo, a triple snip is usually perfect in my experience. On box pressed cigars if you use a round cutter, the blade works best if you face the wider sides along with the blades. Less pressure and cuts it cleaner. The Padron 26 and 64 are regulars in my rotation and I’ve never had an issue. I always carry a Colibri V cutter in my case, but it’s rarely ever used. I just don’t like the feel in my mouth with the cut. Punches I used to use 20 years ago when there were virtually no cutters that fit 60 plus ring gauge cigars, but it’s just not ideal for most cigars IMO.

Rationally and overal I would say the straight cut is the best cutter especially the ones with a big ring gauge. Simply because you can cut everything with them, punch and v-cut have their limitations like the ones you mentioned in the video. But since cigars are far away of being something rational i prefer the V-Cut and i switch between the Colibri and the Xikar Cutter, depends on the deepness (is this a real word?) of the cut i want. With the punch or the V cut, I find that the tar build up starts to affect the taste of the cigar towards the 2nd 3rd. The straight cut is the best way to avoid tar build up in my experience

I soak my cigar in my favorite whiskey before I smoke it. I only put in a cap full of whiskey in a shot glass. Let my cigar soak for 5-10 mins. Light it up and enjoy. Keeps the heat down as you draw. I think it add to the flavor to the cigar.

Interesting, when you mentioned most lighters had punch cuts, I immediately checked my lighter and at the bottom I found out the fuel injection part opens up into a punch cutter. Thanks for mentioning that, I would've never found that otherwise

I went to London to James J Fox Cigar store for some cigar for friends. And sat in Winston Churchills chair and the whole experience was just shitten fun. I might smoke a cigar now on an occasion. But more so now because I like this persons delivery on how to cut a cigar. Funny stuff. Thanks.
