Question-- Why is DSW1 configured to have preempt enabled on *both VLANs* if it's a standby router for VLAN 20? I could see it if for both VLANs DSW1 was supposed to be some sort of prioritized router (not taking into account that we want better load balancing as a point of this lab), but then in that specific case, why is DSW1 being configured as the standby router in the first place for VLAN20?
@secchu88123 жыл бұрын
Great course. Good content. Looks like the syllabus is almost complete. What next? JNCIA? CCNA Voice? If CCNA Voice packet tracer nor GNS3 won't be able to cover the labs. Probably the CCNA is the exam that requires the most real physical resources.
@JeremysITLab3 жыл бұрын

in DSW1 the configurations for FRRP were made on Interface VLAN 2 instead of 20. 4:30.
@JeremysITLab2 жыл бұрын
Nope! Notice the '0' under the two log messages. Those log messages appeared in the middle of me typing '20' so it looks like 'int vlan 2', but that '0' under is part of the command, so its 'int vlan 20'.

Is it necessary to enable preemption on standby routers like you did for vlan 10 on DSW2 and vlan 20 in DSW1 ? Does it do any good?
@JeremysITLab3 жыл бұрын
Not necessary, I just like to make the configurations match.
@braybraycooldude1238 Жыл бұрын
weren't HSRP configuration supposed to be done on an interface and not a vlan interface? I don't remember ever configuring it on a VLAN interface in the HSRP video lessons. I was stuck trying to enter the standby version 2 command on interface g1/0/1 .. for some reason the switch would not recognize the command in packet tracer but for some reason it'll accept the command if I enter interface vlan configuration
@vulpritprooze6 ай бұрын
I think it's because Jeremy set the lab up this way. Using VLAN in this case looks to me like it's a good idea to lessen the burden in creating the lab.

I have no idea why this works, but if you keep getting the duplicate IP address error, change both versions of the standby to 1, then back to 2. I was troubleshooting for 30 min trying to figure out why they kept trying to become the master, but that was the fix i was able to find.
@muzam70159 ай бұрын
same problem,probably error on packet tracer
@very-boring-username9 ай бұрын
This drove me nuts! I thought I was doing something wrong. I even went as far as to type int the commands side by side along with the video to make absolutely sure my configurations were identical, and I STILL had this problem. Once I get my CCNA, I'm never using packet tracer again. This program has bugs and lack of support for commands for nearly every single lab in the course, and it's insane Cisco puts out such a buggy product.
@XxThePlaylistxX8 ай бұрын
For me, this happened when I forgot to specify the HSRP standby group number in my commands. If you type "standby ip " instead of "standby ip ", that's when I got the flood of duplicate IP errors. Probably because if you don't specify the group number it doesn't know that the two switches are sharing the virtual IP.
@vulpritprooze6 ай бұрын
You're right. This solved the problem. Thanks! I think I know the reason why it fixed it. For some reason, if you look at the standby brief, you'll see both VLAN10 and VLAN20 HSRP is actually active. This is why it's a duplicate. We only need one active HSRP. Using standby version 1 then to version 2 again most likely resets the HSRP process and thus it's fixed again. The one reason I can think why this entire debacle happened is because we most likely configured the lesser priority vlans first. For example, we configured HSRP on vlan 20 first before vlan 10 in DSW1 and then vlan 20 HSRP became active. Even when we configure vlan 10 HSRP later, vlan 20 HSRP doesn't know this and would fight for the position of active. Idk if I'm right but that's my two cents. Hope I'm wrong though. There's no way it works like this. I started getting duplicate address errors when I configured HSRP in int vlan 10 first in DSW2. I configured vlan 20 after, and then it happened. This is because vlan 10 HSRP has lesser priority, yet it was the first HSRP that activated first. I don't know why vlan 20 HSRP didn't forcefully stop vlan 10. Or maybe this is a packet tracer bug

Hi Jeremy, just wanted to ask why do you need to enable HSRP preempt on standby SVIs? I thought that preemption should only be applied to the active SVIs so that it can gain the "active" status back once the switch went up from a downtime. Thanks for clarification.

Switch standby versions to 1 and then after that to 2 of all vlans. It must be a packet tracer bug

i think the best answer for task 4 question 4 from boson 15:30 is to disable preempt function so even if a new switch joined the group and has lower priority is wont become the Active switch because the HSRP is non preempt in our case
