Here's an important note for anyone watching this course in the modern day. Cisco changed their language recently to be less controversial. This means that words like blacklist/whitelist master/slave have changed in the official terminology. Master and slave is now primary/secondary or primary/subordinate and whitelist/blacklist is permit (list)/block (list) or allow (list)/block (list). This is important to know for the test and is listed on Cisco's website under their Inclusive Language Policy.

Thank you, Jeremy, for this video, my piece is that, even while am planning to re-certify the CCNA some topics might still be difficult, however, this should not be a showstopper as we can still carry on and book for the exam, am sure not everything will be clear at once, we need to be on the project, do more practice labs...read more OSPF, Etherchannel, subnetting, we figure the rest out along the line.

Why did we say that to reach R2's L0 interface, it has to leave it? It doesn't have to leave it to reach it. Is it more of like just an added fee for going to a Loopback address inside a networking device?

@@AfikJonesmaybe the reasoning is that it tests if R2 is at least capable of sending stuff out the way it's supposed to, even if it doesn't actually have to go out. If you see that cost go up by one then you know that it's processing ospf correctly.

Hello Jeremy, i have 2 questions about the Exstart and Exchange State. 1) Why in the Exstart state the routers send a first DBD packet ? Is it to set like an initial counter from the next DBDs sent in the EXCHANGE state? 2) These DBDs are a unique packet in which first the Master and then the Slave send ALL the LSAs header descriptions or they send (in turn) multiple DBDs packets each with a single LSA? However i can't stop to thank you. You definitely need a statue in the centre of CISCO quarter.

Examples include netmask, ospf process ID, router ID, IP address, zone ID, timer ospf process ID, router ID, IP address must be unique. Hi all, maybe someone can help me understand this process step: During the neighboring process (step 3, "2-way"), both routers exchange theit RIDs. In the next state (step 4, "Exstart"), both Routers try to be the master using DBD packets. I don't understand why they need to negotiate master/slave in step 4 if R1 (RID: 1.1.1.1) already knows that R2 (RID: 2.2.2.2) has a higher ID from the previous step 3? Maybe I'm missing here something. Cheers! BTW: Jeremy, thank you for your great content!

made a mistake @5:45 ?? Switch hes send BPDUs, which include the root path cost. This is the cost of the path from the sending switch to the root bridge. It is calculated by adding the individual port costs along the path from the switch to the root bridge. When a switch receives the BPDU, it adds the ingress port cost of the segment to determine its internal root path cost. It then advertises the new root path cost to its adjacent peers.

EIGRP: 192.168.12.0/24 RIP: 192.168.12.0/27 OSPF: 192.168.12.0/28 My answer would be RIP route. The OSPF has the longest prefix but it doesnt include the destination IP ad The Destination 192.168.12.16 would be subnet itself for the OSPF and the first ip ad would be 192.168.12.17 What is your thought about this? hi, dear Jeremy, i was looking the ospf flashcards and in one card you made this question " OSPF DR/BDRs are elected in the "you select show answer" and the answer is " 2-WAY", and here in your video, you said the selection will be in Exstart state, mmm i think there's a mistake in the flashcard

this might be too nitty gritty but you said R1 is first in the Down state, it sends a hello to R2 which puts R2 in the Init state, R2 sends a hello back putting both routers in the 2-way state, does that mean R1 (or whichever router initiates the hello) skips the Init state?
@JeremysITLab
@JeremysITLab 3 жыл бұрын
Yep, depending on the order/timing of the packets you might see a router go straight to 2-way,

Yeah that's right. The first DBDs are just to determine who will start the exchange, after that the real exchange occurs.

why is it recommended in 9:30 min to change the bandwidth reference and then the interface cost? I understood that no matter if we don't change the reference bandwidth because if we change the interface cost that's what's gonna remain (so in the end the reference bandwidth will have no importance). Did I understand it wrong?

Jeremy, what is the difference between "bandwidth" and "auto-cost reference bandwidth" commands?
@JeremysITLab
@JeremysITLab 2 жыл бұрын
'bandwidth' configures the bandwidth value of the interface. 'auto-cost reference-bandwidth' configures the reference bandwidth of the router. An interface's OSPF cost is calculated like this: *reference-bandwidth* divided by *bandwidth*
