10-year-old Sara Sharif, who died following years of serious and repeated violence in her own home.
Her father Urfan Sharif and step-mother Bay-nish (BAY-NISH) Batool were yesterday found guilty of her murder, while her uncle Faisal (Fi-sal) Malik, who lived at family home in Surrey, was convicted of causing or allowing her death.
In March last year, teachers alerted social services about bruises on Sara's face and raised concerns with Batool.
Weeks later, Sara's father and stepmother removed her from class to be homeschooled, and she was found dead that August.
Children's Commissioner Dame Rachel de Souza said allowing this to happen was 'madness', and called for major changes. parents suspected of abuse to be banned from educating children at home.

No, you need social workers to do their job! This child was seriously at risk and yet they did nothing about her.

@@ruthhadfield9726 I have experience in this field and I can tell you social workers don't care and don't put those lives out. This case, AGAIN highlights the inadequate social workers.

Shall we just forget the fact that she was abused for years whilst attending school. Let's also ignore the fact that lots of children are home educated in order to stop them being harmed in mainstream schools. How exactly would a home education register have saved this child, would it have made social services do their job correctly? The problem is not home education, the problem is failing services.

I totally agree. I work with home schooled children. The problem lies with the authorities and their reluctance to deal with the problem. 'Passing the buck' is not the answer.

If children are home schooled then inspection of the home should take place periodically to ensure the child is both healthy and happy.

Parents I know who homeschool are brilliant parents who care passionately about their children and are prepared to put themselves out.Schools are brainwashing institutions which teach children what to think and not how to think.Knowing what I know now I would have home educated mine

Social services need more rights to remove children into care when they know there are serious concerns

These days I'd say schools are far more harmful to kids, imagine teachers telling your kids they can change sex if they want and sending them down a pathway to puberty blockers and surgery... they can withhold information from parents if suspect they don't agree with it as well.

The fact that, that poor girl was seen with bruises then taken out of school, the school n social services failed her!. If school has visits, then why wouldn’t home schooled kids! It’s literally common sense.

I home educated my daughter, from the age of 9 years onwards. I'm in Scotland. As she was already in school, I had to get permission to take her out. A lady from the education dept came to the house, to meet us and find out what our plans were. She also checked with the social work dept that we were not known to them for any child protection reasons. If there had been any concerns, I would not have been granted permission. This is not the case in the rest of the UK. If you want to home educate a child, you just send a letter asking for them to be taken off the school roll. Even in Scotland, if your child has never been in school, you don’t need to get permission to not send them there. It should be the case that, if there are concerns over a child's welfare, then a parent chooses to home ed them, this should be a huge red flag and social services should get a request for an urgent intervention. Sadly, this does not seem to be the case. It is so sad and changes need to be made.

As the man pointed out, homeschooling is simply removing a child from society. It's like lockdown, but for your whole childhood.

Homeschooling works if the right parameters at home allow for it. This means parents with the right aptitude, attitude, and skill set to homeschool their children. It would be nice to be educated at a university or upper college to teach children from home as a requirement to teach children in a homeschooling environment. Homeschooling should allow time for encounters with friends by their children. Even if it's only every other week, friendships are important and time for that should be allotted. I feel the children would suffer from homeschooling if abuse was the main objective to the parents rather than teaching the children their basic academic subjects.

Home schooling isn't the problem, social services are the problem, and banning homeschooling will just paper over the cracks and social services have to be investigated thoroughly because social services helped to cover up Jimmy Saville and other historical sex abuse crimes and grooming gangs. My missus homeschooling my kids because the education system failed my kids, the education system indoctrinates kids, and the education system isn't good enough. Social services are too blame for missing the warning signs, and the system isn't fit for purpose.
