Mrs. Smith grew up in a small country town just 2 hours south of Atlanta, Georgia.
She was born in this town, fell in love and got married in this town, and eventually raised all four of her sons in this town. But tragically, her husband had died in a car accident while her sons were still young and she was left her to raise them by herself. She never remarried.
But the love she had for her sons kept her going, managing to pay the bills with her job at the local elementary school and leaning on her church family when finances became too hard maintain.
Eventually her sons, all being close to the same age, grew up and joined various branches of the military, taking each of them far away from the only place they'd ever known and with that, Mrs Smith was left by herself… in the town she grew up in, the town she married in, and eventually the town she died in…
One morning, in the winter of 1999 Mrs. Smith got up like she did every other day.. she made her morning coffee, fed the cats, and folded her laundry before leaving for work when suddenly she suffered a massive heart attack and died in the living room of her home.. surrounded by photos of her beloved sons and the nik nacks she'd collected over the course of her life.
After that, this house that was filled with so much love and memories, became only a decaying monument for the wonderful lady who use to call it home.
And For unknown reasons, her sons never came and got any of her things nor sell the property… leaving Mrs Smith's home completely abandoned.
So join me as I step inside of this once beautiful place and let's take a look at what's left inside.
I'm Jeremy and I explore abandoned places. I document all of my explorations from around the world to shed light into the dark world of decay. Follow my adventures at:

The sons she sacrificed everything for to give a them a good life should be ashamed of themselves. Especially as military men. I don't care how busy you are, what you are going through in your grief, you don't disrespect your mother by not taking care of her home and belongings in one way or another. I love that you are so kind and respectful. If they've passed, then RIP and thank you for your service.

In my heart I'm going to pretend she was a strong, independent old lady who told her children not to worry about her and put their own families first and I want to imagine she told them "boys I've had a great life, I can't take all this stuff with me and you sure as hell don't need a bunch of costume jewelry and crocheted doilies, I know y'all love me and that's all I need."

At 17:17 when you pulled that necklace out of the brown box, my heart skipped a beat! I have the same necklace and the matching bracelet that belonged to my mom. I’m 63 and I wore it to my prom when I was 16. Probably not valuable in terms of money but definitely vintage and very sentimental to me. I imagine my own son would throw it away, todays generation doesn’t want this sort of thing, but you just loaded me up on memories of my sweet mom and the day she fastened the necklace around my neck for prom!

As the owner of a little online vintage shop I loved seeing all the knick knacks (the mermaids, fish and swans in the bathroom especially). It gives me a little glimpse into the past and the way things used to be done(decor-wise). On the other hand It's sad to imagine that after devoting her life to taking care of her family that she was left all alone with her stuff. I hope my kids will forever be in my life and one day, when I go, they will take a few of my cute collectibles/art to remember me by and sell or donate the rest. Family first- stuff second. I hope her family sees this video and makes the trip to tie up the loose ends. Go and honor their momma and sell some of the stuff that still has value before it's looted or bulldozed.

Her wedding dress wouldn't have a tag on it. This was a truly heartbreaking exploration. The lady seemed to be very organized and careful with her many things - drawers containing neatly folded items, everything with a place - all of this despite 23 years of being left desolate. It sure is a mystery that none of her beloved family came back to get mementos or see to the property.

A very respectful tour of a sad situation. House and cars have not been trashed at all. At 24:37 we see a roller organ. I had one just like it that worked. This is a hand cranked organ with two bellows. The round cylinder with nails protruding slowly revolves and presses the oval organ keys behind it. The crank has been removed but can be seen to the right inside the case. To play a different song, the "cob" is removed by pulling the round knob on the right. This is a table model of what some would call a "hurdy-gurdy".

For everyone commenting about how can people leave all of this behind. My brother was the executor of my grandmother’s estate. The amount of work that goes into that is huge. Meeting with attorneys, clearing out the house, dividing up any money left to relatives, getting legal documents signed, selling the house, contacting banks credit card companies and govt agencies of the death, paying off outstanding debt, setting up a bank account for incoming funds and paying any ongoing bills, people breaking in the house to steal the copper pipes, etc. He almost had a nervous breakdown over it and we weren’t close with my dad’s mom and she didn’t have much at all. And a lot of the time the older folks let their homes fall into disrepair so even if they sold it they might not get much. And the location of the home may have been desirable at one point but the neighborhood goes to crap.

What you said is so true! Sadly most folks don’t realize this. Also, I noticed that a lot of these places came from the depression era or boomer generations. They were thought to keep everything. Always so much trinkets and knick- knacks. The younger generations usually aren’t Knick-knack people. Most of them are grown with full homes already. The sad truth a lot of these houses already need a ton of repairs to start with. As we age, we can’t do the same things as we did younger. So many of these homes haven’t been repaired since or updated since the 70’s or 80’s. I am 45 and I can honestly say my mom is a pack rat. She is from the boomer generation as is my husbands mom who an actual hoarder. We both agreed we’d take pictures or small meaningful things. As for my husbands mom, we agreed that most of her stuff has been trashed as it’s riddled is cat urine. We actually convinced my mom to downsize to a small house with few possessions. Her house will be locked and auctioned immediately. Profits will be sold between us 3 daughters. My mom is incredibly smart and knows what happens when people pass. Her father passed in 92 and his farm sat in probate for over 15 years. Our children want even less than we have. I make it a point to throw things out. I also don’t do knick-knacks and trinkets. I can tell you first hand, I live in a 1920’s house and something is always breaking. In 5 years our home is paid for and we plan on downsizing and having even less. Stuff is just stuff and you can’t take it when you pass.

What a great walk through. So many sweet items and great colors. I love the green chenille spread , Instead of a sad place, I think of it as a mosoleum honoring the people who lived here. It might be deteriorating, but it is still a museum of sorts that shows the family, the times, the fads and fashions of the period. And most importantly a look into an American family. The retro furnishings are amazing and fun. I'm guessing this house had a LOT of love and laughter.

Hi guys, I found quite a lot of info from this exploration. The most shocking is that I believe her daughter lives next door to this property. Another one of her son lives only 21 minutes away. To me this is mind boggling. Being that close and not come to take a few pictures at least... sad.

I think I found it too. I saw the Education certificate from Muscogee and started my search with that. The certificate has an almost legible name, nice camera. If we came to the same determination, there was a son who died not too long ago and was in the Navy. A brother of his died before him, and he has 2 living brothers. A sister died before him and he still has 2 living sisters. I used that person as the backbone of my search. The property is 1.5 hours outside of Atlanta if it's the same one. You can pretty much only see woods looking in the direction of that house, but aerial boundary lines seem to show woods around what is most likely the sister's house you mentioned - the house that may have been Mrs. Smith's is kind of in a field and has a long driveway with no property value or lot assignment. Going by the shape and placement of the wooded area, it looks like the field house was hers and it has a new roof. Hey, I was bored and interested. I think what I found is the same place, and I'm generally pretty good when it comes to tracking things/people down online. It's like working on digital puzzles that can span decades or more. If I'm right, I tracked all of the info down in about an hour and a half using county, obituary, real estate listings starting with that certificate.

If the daughter lives on the property next door, that could explain why the house hasn't been vandalized and ransacked. My guess is they know it is there but has just been easier for them to know it's there and think they'll do something with it ... someday. But someday never comes.

Thank you for your video. At 60, I recognize many of the things you asked about. I think the car is a Buick, that is a music box, the cylinder turns and taps on the metals at the back. The sewing machine, called a treadle, if you had lifted the lid, should still be in there. The coffee tea sugar flour canister set was a common kitchen accessory always having those 4 items. The record player probably didn’t hold too many records, if any, those would have been on the side in closed boxes. And for sure the jewelry would have vintage value. Such a wonder to see into peoples lives as you have shown. Blessings to the surviving family, looks like there was a daughter too. I like your respectful presentation. Thanks again!

Jeremy, as you explore abandon homes your empathy touches our hearts with memories of those we have lost. Mrs. Smith's children if they are living showed little respect for their mother, and the family home for leaving it like this. Sadly this is becoming a reality in today's world. Hopefully some distant family member might see your video and bring closure for her.

A sweet God-fearing churchgoing lady, has hats to match every outfit. And in the last room were a bunch of empty hat boxes. I think her loved ones were able to get what they wanted. Hats, tv and more. Maybe there were issues over the inheritance and that is why the house was never sold. In any event, this is not a sad place! Stop calling it sad. I see a legacy of a very strong woman. Who stood her ground. Had her own house, cars, job and raised some fine kids. And had money to spend on all her little knickknacks. Or maybe all those were given to her by kids and grandchildren? Maybe they loved her so much, they could not bear to be in that house, ever again. Great tribute you made! Well done!

@abandondednashville Thank you for the share! As someone in the industry all I can think is, Oh my gah how amazing would it be to use all these pieces of history in a period piece!! I think this story is worth looking into more for sure! Because Guys! 😫 we are leaving such mean comments about the kids, but absolutely none of us know what she was like as a person! Please allow me to play advocate for the voiceless for a moment… Not to speak I’ll of the dead, but what if she was a horrible mother? Horrible mothers have some of the cutest, most well maintained houses you’ve ever seen!! Not to mention they LOVE to fill their house with the smiling faces of their loved ones, so they can write a different narrative in their own mind about what life was like for them. 😬 dark I know, but true. What if she was a horrible person in general? Don’t you find it odd that not one of her church friends, stepped forward to claim anything either. I’m just saying we’re sitting here demonizing the children, but we don’t know a thing about them. Or perhaps she was so wonderful people just couldn’t bare to disrupt her stuff… It looks very much like she had a daughter too, why is there no mention of her I wonder? It just seems like there’s more of a story here, how very odd that the house has sat all these years and no one has ever even ransacked it. PS-my post is loving, not malicious. I just felt bad that we thought the kids were bad kids, but it’s rare that a kid doesn’t like his mother for no reason, you know? I just find this particular post a juicy one, full of Whys? Which may or may not have an easy answer. Please do a follow up for us inquiring minds!! 🙏🏼💜

Granted we have no background as to what truly happened in that household, but I immediately got a a sense of love & devotion. Perhaps things went awry after the father died, but that still is no excuse for the behavior of the Smith Brothers to dismiss their mother’s possessions as is if they were no better than dirt. I can tell you that many items in that house are worth quite a bit of money as they are beautiful antiques, and there are people out there willing to restore precious pieces from simpler times when furniture was made to last. I believe some may even be made of teak which is highly valuable & collectible. Some of her tchotchkes may be of value as well. The county should organize her photos as a tribute to her service to the elementary school. The military photos should be returned to the the military branches as historical records. None of this should sit idly by as time ticks away. The cars on her property may also be worth money, especially the white car that doesn’t look that bad for its age. I’ve experienced death at an early age (dad died at 17, my brother who didn’t get along with my father, sold off what he could, and since my mom’s items will go to me, actually made me pay for the things that he was going to dispose of, that I wanted), so I understand discord after a family death. However, I was a 911 dispatcher for 24 years, and usually after a loved one died, we received calls because family members were fighting over who got what in the end. I don’t ever recall once where someone passed, and nobody wanted anything. Shame on you Smith Brothers, this is just simply disgraceful. You have broken your Mother’s heart in Her afterlife which is abominable & contemptible. You will not be seeing each other again in the end.

I am guessing that the sewing machine is still there. You open that lid and it swings up into position and locks into place. Mom had the same machine. It's a way of using that sewing table for more than one thing and it also protects the machine. Less top heavy when stowed also. Those old treadle model Singers lasted forever and were a very important part of the home. That machine likely belonged to her mother, and maybe her grandmother.

From your brief history it sounds as if she was still of working age and died unexpectedly of a heart attack. She may have not had a will, which means her estate would have to go through the probate process, which is expensive and time consuming. If probate was never granted, it would explain everything being left behind. I spotted so many valuable antique and vintage items. The thought of them just rotting away is very sad.

Yep. Probating is not easy or inexpensive. Children may live far away and are unable to try to take care of business with all family. Take care of business folks before anything happens. Try to get rid of nick knacks, kitchen and dining room things throughout. At 70 I told all who give me gifts to stick with eats, drinks and spendable! Grandson helping me put pics on flash drives for posterity. This is an example of how family and friends cannot always work things out. That car would sell enough to pay any taxes or mortgage!

Hi Jeremy, this house makes me both want to cry, as it's just so sad, but the amazing amount of treasure among rubble is exciting. There is a small fortune in that home. Old costume jewelry can be quite valuable. There was a gorgeous hurricane lamp that would also bring high dollars. Not to mention the antique and vintage furniture! The car looked like an old Pontiac I think. (Restored could also bring some big $$$.) It's ashamed about the water damage to the house itself, as you know there is mold and mold is hard to get gone. It looks like she lived a very good life. She may very well have outlived her sons as well. One never knows, but it is really odd that NOBODY has claimed any of it.😢
