If you think about it, bath and body works charges 12$ for a body wash, a huge bar of soap will last you a lot longer than body wash and it's less waste going into a landfill. Also, I've bought a few bars of soap from you and I have to cut them in half because they don't fit in my hand, so that makes it even more worth it 🙂 thanks for all of the tips! My first farmer's market is tmrw!😁

When I was selling musical instruments, herbal goodies, and novelties at special events, the ability to do credit sales increased our sales by about 30%. Plus, it stopped people from giving us back checks that we later had to try to chase down.

I sell soap and handspun alpaca yarn. I will spin my yarn at the table. You would be surprised how many people that draws in. I talk about what I am doing and then go into the soap and bath bombs etc. It really draws people in- especially parents wanting their children to see spinning.

Thanks for these tips. I am shy myself at first but after I am good. Lol. But I am very friendly and always say hi to everyone. So that won't be my down fall. But making youtube might be my problems. But i do agree that saying hi/hello will make a person take a look. I have done sales before so I know how to target my buyers. That is very important. And I also agree with having a variety of items to sell. That is why I want to start my farmers market selling next year god's willing. I will also have sample's to offer in certain products. And make sure to know my products and what the benefits are in using a certain products, because if you don't know your products and there benefits that isn't good. It is a must you know what you are offering and selling to people. That is how you will gain customers and followers. I will be offering lip gloss, lip balms, body scrubs, body butters, soaps, bath bombs, oils, hair products, and all natural deodorant etc. I agree with the banner and social media.

Hi Jerika! I am also a soapmaker for 3 years, I will open my boutique soon in my little town in Québec. I concentrate my work for local customers. I am searching for advices, planification to help my productivity. Do you have an exemple of a typical day? How many hours a day do you work? I'm always doing 5 things at the time and I think that my production could be optimized. It's a little bit free for all here in the moment, and I have the impression of getting late for many reasons, for example: my soaps are ready but not the labels, or I want to make candles for a while, and I have my soy wax waiting for me for months but I just make more types of soap because I want to offer variety, or I elaborate a recipe for a product and I just wait for more time to do it! Lol. I am a passionate person and I work hard, but I think that I will have to optimize my time/schedule real soon to not get exhausted one day, like at Christmas time. Thank you :)

I'd say, if you're comfortable with the speed at which the customer is making their selection and checking out, then you're good! It really all depends on how quickly you want the customer in and out.

I think you're totally wrong about people who haven't made soap personally yet want to sell. I'm one of those people, and the product I sell, I've been using for years. A person CAN believe in a product and know everything about that product enough to know what it does and how it works. Many of us don't have a big beautiful place to work in like you. They should still have the opportunity to make money in this industry.
@joan-lisa-smith
@joan-lisa-smith 3 жыл бұрын
She's not talking about resellers, she's referring to people who sell their own products so the comment doesn't apply to your situation. Markets here don't allow Sensy etc, only handmade so people come knowing whatever people are selling they made themselves. She's also meaning that people want to start a soap making biz (where they make it themselves) before even trying to learn how to make the products....cart before the horse. They like the idea of it but may spend tons on ingredients, labels, website etc then discover they don't even like making soap, are unable to or that there's no place to sell because markets and shops only allow in a couple soap makers and they already have enough of those vendors who have been there years (so until they retire you won't be getting a spot).
@StacyL.
@StacyL. 3 жыл бұрын
@@joan-lisa-smithlisten at 19:29. She stated that she gets emails from people who have never made a bar of soap but wavy to make it their business. That's resellers. That's me. And yes, she's still wrong. I may not "make" my product, but I know the process and I know where the ingredients come from that go into each loaf. My customers ask me questions and since I use my own products, I'm an expert.

@@StacyL. I Totally agree with you! We are in a free market and anybody that is willing to put in the work should have the right to make money in whatever ethical way he or she wants. As long as you have the knowledge, you are definitely worthy and credible enough to resell soap.

This information is so accurate. I have only went to 2. And my first craft show I made about 75 dollars. This last time was about 180 dollars. A piece of advice that could be extremely helpful is that the reason why my sales boosted is because I had samples for people to smell. Also a must is a credit card reader as they said. I had people ask me the last time if I took cards. 😬 I didn't. I think I would of made 300 at least. I will this time. 😁 Thanks for all the info.

Sometimes people are shy, like you said, and I keep business cards available for them to take. On the back I state we do custom orders for baby showers, weddings etc.and those people often call the house to discuss a wedding or shower. We even had a business get hold of us to do an employee appreciation gift. So the possibilities are endless! Jill

Farmers markets have honestly been the most successful way that I’ve grown my business! I just wish I could do ALL of the markets around my area. I need my hubby to take Kale’s lead and do some markets while I’m at others. He loves to come with me ...but doesn’t do any of the sales. This was excellent video my husband always told me you need to make more products then just soap. So it took years I started with soap then candles now perfume oil Sprays and more. The thing now is moving from NY to the south is smells. Demographics is important to know also cause it’s different. Sales are getting better in the south especially after this past year. I do have different price points so I make small amounts of some products to see what type of smells they are looking for. I’m the beginning it’s also a logo keeping things uniform that took me years to finally get. I was working in the beginning doing markets only one day a week so I never gave up until finally my business is doing a lot better. Patients is the key and believe it will get better.

Really well done video! Anyone who wants to make a business selling soaps had best learn how to make the soap first. It takes time to develop your recipe and it must be a safe soap. People don't realize that they can cause severe harm with lye heavy soaps or too much scent. Your video information can be used for all types of booths. One thing I would add is to make sure you have enough change!

I made I formation sheets so I could help others at the same time. They like the information sheets and I put our website at the bottom and allow them to take the sheets 😀 also put a picture of the item with a second column that lists what the ingredients are as well as what the item helps with. Thanks for this video!!
