My customer base loves my candles because they are strong and in your face. Isn't that the point? You can smell my candles before you even open the jars. One of my 8 Oz candles fills almost an entire home all by itself. I have a lighter line for more sensitive people but the stout scent is what built my base.

Pre-made wicks are a huge time saver. I use to loop the wick in a pen (shell/out portion) and then press the sticker and wick into the glass jar bottom. Now I have this device. Melting pot machine with quick-pour spout takes 1/3 of the time to melt and over time you will save on electricity. I use the same straight Uline jars :) They look perfect.

I like to use high temp red rtv silicone, type 650 for my wick glue. Get it from your at parts store. No slip, high temp safe, safe on all types of materials (glass, metal). Prepare the day before. Cost effective and never a problem. I learned this tip from a candle maker VERY long time ago.

@@fifimorrison1804 Thanks 😊 I had 2 pulmonary embolism, just a few days apart... First 1 on 8/27, went home on 8/30 and the 2nd one on 9/1 in the other lung. I'm now finally home on 9/5. It's not 100% clear how I got 2 pulmonary embolism while on blood thinners but we're trying different ones now( yep plural, 2 different blood thinners). I was knitting while in the hospital too lol Nurses thought it was so strange because here I was in the critical care unit, in my 30s and knitting while in bed lol I hope your epilepsy is well controlled! @@lemondew8138 unfortunately mine is not under control :( It's been 8 years since I first got sick and originally I had to be placed in an induced coma. I literally spent the entire summer there as I went in the last week of June and was released from rehab on Oct. 4th. Unfortunately they drilled into my skull to put in electrodes to see where I was seizing and there was no chance of removing any parts and I had 40 seizures, even if they were like a second or 2 (there are a ton of different types not just the one people think about when they hear the word which used to be called Grand Mal seizures). I had 40 while I was in the unit at the hospital for 10 days I think, but that's also minus the time/days I had the neurons in my head. Unfortunately mine are all over the place so they can't do anything surgically to my brain, but if they ever get around to it and if Covid stops I might get like an epilepsy pacemaker sort of thing or something that they do for people with MS, but there has only been 1 person here in Atlantic Canada where I am (East of Maine) and he was actually in the hospital Epilepsy Monitoring Unit with me in 2019. Well I hope you are well on your way to getting healed, even if you have to deal with pills.

@@fifimorrison1804 That's a bummer... I actually do know someone with an epilepsy pacemaker( I'm in upstate NY)! He said it was life changing. He's still not allowed to drive but his seizures are not affecting his daily life as much. I'm at about 45 pills a day right now, plus 2 daily injections and 1 that's monthly. Oh and 4 buccal films daily 🤷🏻‍♀️

The wick size has a lot to do with the melt pool. If your candle is not wicked properly, you will have issues with the wax reaching the edge of the jar... More so then the wick not being centered....

Actually, I've only experimented with the wooden wicks a wee bit so far, but ADORE them so far! Talk about rustic! I also find that if you take the time to predip the wicks, they won't end up absorbing so much of the freshly poured wax while it's still liquid enough make a difference and leave a nasty pool!

Hi Jerika! I'm sure you're insanely busy but I've been watching a few of your videos now and they are soooo informative! Love all of them. I'm trying to start my own organic goats milk soaps, starting with very few ingredients and picking up more scents along the way. I'm trying to create my first recipe which will be the base recipe for the rest; unscented and just creamy, milky, feel good (Olive and coconut oil, goats milk, lye and castor oil). I've tried the calculator but I have no idea the starting oz of each fat, oil and lye so even that's a hard resource to use. All "basic" recipes you find online have added oils I'm not interested in. Any advice would be absolutely amazing. Thank you for any time and suggestions.
@brismithereeno
@brismithereeno 2 жыл бұрын
Hey girl, I'm really new to soap making too, so I apologize, but from what I've researched, it helps some to look up the recommended usages of oils in soaps, so for example, coconut oil and olive oil can both be used at 100% for soap. Castor oil is usually recommended at about 5%. So to start out you would need to figure out the purpose of your soap, if you want it more creamy, you would use more olive oil, but keep in mind the more olive oil you use, the longer it takes to come to trace, and will take longer to be able to unmold. So you could do like 50% coconut oil, 45% olive oil, then 5% castor. I'm not 💯 yet on formulating, but I know your goat milk content will be discounted from your water that you mix with the lye. If you had lye to your milk, freeze your milk, and add the lye slowly so it doesn't burn
@brismithereeno
@brismithereeno 2 жыл бұрын
Also, your 100%, is the amount of grams that your mold will hold. I don't know yet how to calculate the difference of the oils and butters and the lye water to account for the whole volume so I can't give advice on that.

Thanks for being so awesome you guys! Could I please ask the melting temp and pouring temp? Usually with soy that I've seen, it's melted to 185F and poured between 125-145F. Just wondering if you use these same guidelines. Thanks for the super informative videos!!

We don’t wait for the wax too cool, we just pour once it hits 185F and stirred in the fragrance oil for 2 mins. You’ll find so many opinions on KZbin lol… this has worked for us.

Have you ever checked out Richards Packaging for your jars and lip balm tubes? We tried U-Line, but the shipping is crazy to get it to Winnipeg.

Nope! But I’ll check them out! We live driving distance from Uline so the shipping isn’t a factor for us.

great tips! Do you have a tip for better EO throw?
@JerikaZimmerman
@JerikaZimmerman 2 жыл бұрын
We don’t use EOs … their scent throw is not strong and also burning them may lead to toxins (from what we’ve seen and heard) and we have fur babies.
