I grew up with this buddy who was spoiled on video games. Kid probably had 100+ xbox games but this was the game I remember him talking about the most. Jerma's got an interesting choice of games to stream, pretty much all things I wanted to try at some point in my youth but completely forgotten since.

I remember seeing this game in Gamestop when I was a kid and my dad going "we aren't getting that. Its a bad game." I wonder now how much he actually knew about it or if he just thought it was too violent for me. Many games from the early-mid 2000s looked great, it's just that lots of people nowadays say "this looks like a PS2 game" as an insult for some reason

This is the 2009 remake. The original looked pretty good too though, better than Doom 3 from the same year. And it didn't look like there's vaseline all over everything. Interestingly, it came out as an Xbox exclusive in June 2004, the PC version came out in December with improved graphics. Even so, the Xbox version looks good, it's 2001 hardware after all! (But the PC port wouldn't work fine at all on a 2001 video card, how they managed it on the Xbox is beyond me.)

It's a very, very good game. Butcher's Bay itself held some problems... the game was extremely innovative at its time, but that came with some issues that even some re-releases didn't address or fix. The Dark Athena update was strong, basically adding another entire game, and DA came with a host of other improvements itself. It's pretty day, but for a game of its age it holds up remarkably well.
