Part 8: • Jermaine Hopkins: 'Jui...
Part 1: • Jermaine Hopkins on Gr...
-------
In this clip, Jermaine Hopkins revealed that he hadn't thought about 'Juice' being a classic movie when they were filming back in the day. He also said that he didn't even read the whole script and called it a blessing that he was able to piece his role together.
Later, Jermaine Hopkins shoots down the narrative that Tupac was stuck in the Bishop character in real life after filming and how Rakim's "Know the Ledge" became the film's anthem.

Treach(Close friend BEFORE & after BIshop/Juice ): People sometimes are like, “I know ‘Pac before Juice and he was cool and then he turned into Bishop.” Nah. We were in the projects. We would go get weed, go to parties. THERE WAS SO MUCH TUPAC PUT INTO THE BISHOP ROLE. It wasn’t like he was stepping outside of his boundaries. He put all of his pain from growing up-moving state-to-state and seeing different environments. A lot of his family was getting killed or were on the run. He put all of his hurt up into that so that was undeniable.

People always want to know: "was this person A or B?" Like was 2Pac an art school student who sometimes hammed up his persona or did he genuinely live the lifestyle he portrayed. But there's no reason why it was to be one or the other. Like most of these things it's probably a bit of both, or somewhere in the middle. There could have been times in life where he was a certain way and times he was another way. You process your life experience in different ways at different times, people go through a lot of phases and people as energetic and present as he was are capable of (and in fact predisposed to) constant change, growth, phases etc. The philosophy in his music changed loads, his worldview was different from album to album. Also if you go through a bunch of different environments when you're young it's pretty normal to end up kind of living 2 lives. More than that he was just a very complicated person. He had a bit of everything and that's why he's so enduring and why people still care about him so much. I think trying to peel back the layers is interesting but trying to figure out if whether or not he was completely a "fraud" isn't as much, and is a failed premise to begin with. It's factually untrue, based on real life incidents that actually happened like the shooting, incident in the shop, numerous stories from people that knew him etc etc etc. Maybe he kind of got pulled into things that he wasn't really into and was a bit too sensitive for but I would imagine that's a reality for a lot of young black men in America. Not many people are "real" thugs if their environment doesn't necessitate it, in fact it's a very small number. So the fact is that with 2pac that we just see more of him than we see of a lot of other people, who probably have more to them as people than the world allows them to show.

How could Pac turn into Bishop after Juice when Pac MADE the Bishop character? Bishop was a character in a script but 2pac brought him to life! That's how he was able to put such raw emotion into the character because it was partly an extension of who he was.

Idk man, you can watch those interviews from when Tupac was 17-18, he spoke and acted like an entirely different person. His mannerisms and speech were NOTHING like what it became later. Maybe it was a natural change, but most peoples speech patterns don’t change THAT much. RIP Tupac.
