What you see is what you hear: The audio signal is fed into a software oscilloscope, where vector graphics are drawn with sound. This is done twice, with slightly rotated images for each eye, i.e. four audio channels have been used.
channel 1: horizontal deflection, left eye
channel 2: vertical deflection, left eye
channel 3: horizontal deflection, right eye
channel 4: vertical deflection, right eye
This video is in stereo because KZbin doesn't support 4-channel audio, but you can download all the WAVs from oscilloscopemusic.com (album download now includes the 4-channel WAV, existing download codes still work!) or jerobeamfenderson.bandcamp.co... (2 stereo WAVs).
Major thanks to / hansiraber for all the crazy software!
OsciStudio: asdfg.me/oscistudio (current version doesn't support stereoscopic 3D)
Software Oscilloscope this video was rendered with: asdfg.me/osci (now supports 4-channel audio / stereoscopic 3D :))

@Nerdule

You want to do it the other way- the Magic Eye method, where instead of crossing your eyes (so the left image goes to the right eye and the right image goes to the left eye), you relax them and focus on a point *behind* the screen, so the left image goes to the left eye and the right image goes to the right eye. As James Liu said, cross-eye 3D will invert the depth.

You have to uncross your eyes to see this correctly. Crossing your eyes will result with the depth being perceived backwards. Viewing this with uncrossed eyes is very difficult. You have to make the video screen as small as possible, then look past the monitor/TV. The best way to view this is by using your smartphone and one of those cheap VR 'holders'. Jerobeam Fenderson, please can you do another version of this with the left and right images swapped. Viewing these 'crossed' is so much easier and better to watch on on big screens.
@Nerdule
@Nerdule 7 жыл бұрын
With practice, viewing uncrossed is actually easier than cross-eyed 3D IMO; cross-eyed 3D always gives me eyestrain, but relaxing my eyes is way easier on my eye muscles.

@Nerdule
@Nerdule 7 жыл бұрын
So don't view them cross-eyed. View them the Magic Eye way, where you focus on a point *behind* the screen instead. That way, your right eye's staring at the right image, your left eye's staring at the left image, and the depth is correct. (I actually prefer the Magic Eye method myself - trying to view cross-eyed stuff always gives me eyestrain) Instead of crossing your eyes, you unfocus and relax them, and let the images cross over.

Hey what's going on! I got the OsciStudio app and have been playing around with it, so much fun and cool stuff is possible! My question is based on some of your experiments with 3 RGB Projectors or with a 3-color laser system... I would love to have a full-spectrum visual representation! Do you think we can assign frequency to the color, much like it is in the visible spectrum, or cycling a color wheel? It is my dream to combine sound and vision in such a way as you have already started with Oscilloscope music, how can we make it full-color? Perhaps the waveform can simply sweep through the spectrum from start to finish, and because the shape usually forms a loop this would create a wonderful color-wheel from all the hues, but it would not really be a part of the frequency... but maybe because the frequency does not usually affect the shape of the sound, it could be great for the color? Additive RGB color allows creating all the hues and tones possible, by overlapping the output of each projection - so the first third of the waveform would be red, the middle third overlapping would create yellows to greens, and the blue for the last third overlapping would create cyan and blue, then you overlap the end and start points of the waveform to make the violet and magenta colors blend? What are your thoughts?

Is there a 2 channel stereo version that draws both channels like this? I would have a hard time lining up 2 oscilloscope screens to get the proper distance, but one of the larger oscopes would have room on the screen. (or sit really close to it). Otherwise, I might be able to do it by inverting x and y on one of them and using an upside down oscilloscope 'oscillogoggles'
@jerobeamfenderson1
@jerobeamfenderson1 7 жыл бұрын
There isn't. The track would have to be entirely remade to sound even remotely musical (big jumps between two images are difficult). But Hansi's software osci (asdfg.me/osci) now supports 4-channel audio.

@zeeb2836 7 жыл бұрын
Dangerous Pictures For me personally, I don't own a cardboard or GearVR, so I can't do that. Also, this was designed for cardboard, so using the cross-eye method "reverses" the depth, thus far things look close and close things look far. It is hard to explain but trippy to experience

@Nerdule
@Nerdule 7 жыл бұрын
You're correct, but there's *two* ways of side-to-side 3D viewing, and cross-eyed is only one of them. This video's laid out for the other way, where instead of your sight lines converging on a point in front of the screen (as in cross-eyed) you want to be converging on a point *behind* the screen. Think of it as Magic Eye 3D, instead of cross-eyed. You just kinda relax your eyes and let the images cross over.
