In this tour of Jerome Arizona we walk around the Main Street. We talk about the history of the old Copper mining boom town and how Jerome Arizona came to be and how it would eventually become an old ghost town.
#Jerome #Arizona #Tour
Living in Arizona is quite a unique experience because of the vastness that the state offers. From the Sonoran Desert in the south to the high country in the north all the way up towards the Four Corners east and the Grand Canyon in the west. Known as the Grand Canyon state, Arizona is diverse in many ways. The state tree is the Palo Verde, the state cactus is the Saguaro, the state bird is the Cactus wren. If you are thinking about moving to Arizona feel free to subscribe and check us out on our other channels.

As a 14-year-old boy (1960), I lived in Bridgeport, my father was the area manager of the Verde Valley for the Arizona Republic. After dropping off paper bundle to paper carriers thur out Cottonwood & Clarkdale would go up to Jerome. And because there were so few residents in Jerome, he had to deliver the papers himself, all but a couple were thrown onto porches thru the window from the cab of our 1956 Chevy pickup. Seeing this video is amazing because there are a lot more people & business than there was 62 years ago. Thank you for the memory

I've always thought of Az as a dry hot place with not much to see or do. This last year I've been to Tombstone, Bisbee, Sedona, Flagstaff, Prescott, Williams, and the Grand Canyon. Arizona absolutely blows away Texas with it's natural beauty and things to do. I live in Houston with 9 months of terrible weather a year and a 13 hour drive to the nearest mountain town. I hope to move to Az one day.

My father-in-law was born in Jerome in what in now known as the Jerome Grand Hotel. His 2 younger brothers were also born there. His grand father and father both worked for the copper mine. They lived in a house on what was known as the hogback. His family lived there till the start of WWII. There is a book on a table in the Jerome Grand with pictures of my FIL and his family taken back in the 30's. My wife and I have visited there a couple times. My wife has offered to have us take him to Jerome one last time but at 91 years old, he would rather stay home.

A word of note: The speed limit is 20 and the cops are very aggressive in that town. 2nd: the town made the decision a few years ago to make money on the tourists, so they installed parking meters. It will cost you now to park and visit the town. The meter maid is also very aggressive and you can see her giving out tickets throughout the town. The motorcyclists have now abandoned the town and the bars are suffering, especially the Spirit room where they use to have bands every weekend. Those days are now gone. The town itself is fun to walk around and explore. Many cool stores there. The town suffers from very poor leadership and is now something less than it use to be.
@groovenus
@groovenus Жыл бұрын
the police officers enforce the 20 m.p.h. speed limit beeeecaaaauuuusssee the visitors like to wander into the streets or stop in the middle of them to take photos. annnnnndddd, the town has 100 year old water and sewer pipes so the meager $4 to park ALL DAY goes into a fund that repairs and replaces some of that infrastructure - the very same infrastructure that accommodates hundreds of visitors a day who flush, flush, flush. also, parking enforcement is necessary to keep visitors out of neighborhoods so that residents have a place to park. motorcyclists have not abandoned the town and the spirit room is still an awesome place. who are you anyway?

I lived Sedona , back in the early 90s, and Jerome was my favoite place to go, on the weekend with all the shops and I'd sit on those concrate steps overlooking the vally towards Flagstaff, and listing to the music in the air coiming from the bar, not sure if it was the spirt room or the one across the street from it, but watching this video, it looks like things have changed some,

On a camping/road trip a few years ago we went thru Jerome on a Friday afternoon in March. It was so packed with visitors and we could not even find a place to park anywhere. I had really wanted to check it out but we just kept on driving unfortunately. Oh well maybe next time. But how often am I in this neck of the woods? Once in a lifetime.
