Ok never played so not sure it’d work but on that rope level you had to drop between the buttons. Had you dropped the person in the middle of the chain could you control their height by the others getting closer & farther apart?

The same principle is shown with like a string with a single bead. The less tension on both ends, the more it droops. The more tension on both sides the higher up it goes
