...And just like that the year is gone takes the cake for best/most relatable lyrics on this LP (and in general tbh) "I look in the mirror and I can't recognize the reflection This can't be me I hate this person, but the mirror doesn't lie I've lost sight of who I am and who you are Who we are is not the same Two sad, blank eyes staring back at me Begging for some understanding The only thing that I can see is that I still love who I thought you were" even though you'd never to make the lyrics out on their own, reading them alongside the music really helps emphasize the unrelenting emotion already being demonstrated by those screams.

great description of the appeal of their music. knowing the lyrics and hearing the music expressing the sentiment in the words is what makes their music so powerful. the very reason this band got me through some of the darkest parts of depression, over a decade ago

Couldn’t agree more. The way it sounds works so well for the destruction this record puts out. It goes hand in hand for the whole “no microphone” thing when they played live, made it so much more emotional to me. Even in a sort of messed up or sadistic way where Jeff is screaming out all of this in a style that’s actively hurting him. He once said in an interview that he went through lots of trauma as a kid and this was his outlet, which adds more meaning and emotion to it for me.
