Life is funny- when I was a jazz kid in the 60s I thought Hawaiian music was old men stuff- Now, that I'm an old Jazz Beatnik, I'd trade all those hot Bird licks for this blood- pressure- lowering bliss. Something very primal in this like the music of India... goes way deep into the psyche. Jerry is the living end. (rip) Band members are straight from Heaven....

Jerry Byrd is one of my idols ; in the playing of this grand guitar style of playing.. Music from the Islands is so smooth and wonderful & relaxing.. Make one want to throw a grass skirt on and dance to the waves.. Post some more of these fine renditions by Jerry..Bernie

Without any doubt Jerry Byrd the finest steel guitar player in the history of the instrument! Flawless and beautiful tone.

Yes, He was the Master of "Touch and Tone". NO one will ever be as good as he was. Proof... Buddy Emmons (the greatest pedal steel guitar player that will ever have lived), and countless other "greats", believe this and have often said it in different ways.

music is not meant to be a childish pissing contest, each and every musician and the music they produce is beautiful, we are here to enjoy Jerry, Hiram, Dennis and Gary, that is sufficient.

Great, what a master of his craft. I wonder how he tunes both necks, i have a similar double neck 16 string. I have one neck tuned to C6 and was going to try for E13 on the other neck but never quite got there yet. Any advice from other lap steel players would be greatly appreciated :)

I hear a lot of imitators of Jerry Byrd’s style.Much easier to play than Rudi Wairata style.I never hear Jerry playing too fast try and copy Rudi’s style and see how close you can get. Then tell me who is the best.If it wasn’t for Rudi Wairata/George de fretes/Dennis Brown and the Kilima Hawaiian among others we wouldn’t be listening to Hawaiian music today.Aloha
