My son Richard had a double lung transplant, When he woke up he was looking for his oxygen. I told him you don't need it you have new lungs.. The smile on his face was priceless.

Yes, very interesting story Jerry. I am glad that it worked well for you. Nice also that you had the time to even reject a few calls until you were ready for it and the perfect match arrived. I can confirm most of this story since I had a double one as well (2019). In my case there was no time to find a perfect match. 3 criteria were considered only: sex, blood type and approximate size, not even HLA. No time for fancy stuff. There were only a few days left for me. It turned-out to be a good match after all. I write this because I want to comment on 1 particular phrase "someone had to die, in order for me to live". Objection! This almost sounds like someone has been snatched of the street in order to be used for parts. I think about my donor a lot as well. I know just a few things about him (which I will not reveal), but I cannot say that he had to die for me to give me my life back. The person died, and fortunately several persons were helped with his organs and tissues. It is definitively wrong to connect the death of the donor with the life of the recipient as if this death was almost orchestrated. I also have heard this remark regarding my situation, and it annoys me that people mix cause and effect so easily. I honor my donor for being a donor, I feel pity for his family and friends, but I feel not connected to the death of my donor.

@@mohanshivamusicfactory Thx for asking. I live a reasonably normal life, believe it or not. Quality of life has dramatically increased for me, but some are less fortunate. I know. Anyway, the donated lungs to their work well, and from this point in time I might have another 5 years in good quality. I also know that there are factors that will catch you in the end, but just see the transplant as gift for a number of extra years.

I work in the organ donation field and I've never heard of anyone rejecting organs that they need. He comes of as entitled and above all! Tons of people die on the list. I wish you the best but at the same time, be humble and grateful.

I was born with one lung and a half, and a couple holes in my heart. A month ago my smaller lung collapsed and never came back so it was removed. I have severe asthma since I was a baby. Two years ago I was diagnosed with severe eosinophilic asthma. My one lung is not doing good. I've been in the hospital now for a month cause I had surgury in my heart and lung. I'm on oxygen, and feeding tube. I'm on the list for new lungs but I'm still discourage with the information about it. I'm 27 and I'm not sure if I can do it to 30

You have had a hell of a tough road so far but stick with it, Michael. My issue was idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. I am 72 and had a single lung transplant 3.5 years ago. I am into extra innings!! That is the way I think about it. I have had the opportunity to go on multiple trips with my wife, seen my first grandchild, Michael, come into the world and walked my only daughter down the aisle last November. Lung transplants are not for sissies. They are difficult and quite trying. But not any more difficult than it sounds like you have been through already. The transplant was quite worthwhile. God Bless! I wish we had some way to connect.

I am sorry you have had so much suffering. My daughter was in the ICU for 6 months, on ECMO, struggling to breath. She had a double lung transplant 2 years ago at age 30. Keep hoping & working & stay as strong as possible. She had daily PT 7:31 & OT which were critical in her recovery. She is also mentally determined & goal oriented. Her optimism & persistence were crucial. God bless you. 7:31
