Thank you Jerry for always being here when I need you, he had what many have had but isn’t something you see much of nowadays, soul, a genuine and loving soul who wanted to leave the earth better than he found it other than wrecking the place for his own entertainment utmost respect and love for this legend from now until the end

He is such a inspiration to all of us. I try to follow his example as good as I can. Many people claim I am very kind. But I always think: I can do better to make people more happy. Life is short. We need to enjoy it together as long as we can. That's what I got out of Jerrys music.

Used to step in and watch the Jerry band at the Stone on Broadway in SF in the mid-80s. This and other Jimmy Cliff was usually on the menu. Also loved Cats Down Under the Stars and several others. It was his heyday. Seems like he always finished the show with the Peter Rowan favorite, Midnight Moonlight. People just danced their ass off polka style and swirly crazy ta that one. I loved seeing those shows. Always some crazy wierd lovely stuff happening you couldn't explain in 'normal' terms. If you went to Jerry or Dead shows, of course you know what I mean. There was also the Keystone down in Palo Alto. It was all like his home territory. I saw him at Frost in Stanford, the Greek in Berkeley, the Sweetwater in Mill Valley (very personal) and finally at RFK 5 weeks before he died. Love seeing all these old memories. They capture the essence pretty well, except for the time, the people, the high, the air, Bill Graham, and the incredible sense of the cosmic. Oh well. Can't have everything, can ya...

Can i get amen or as Gabby Johnson said Reverend!! I was born in 74 grew up on this and would get yelled at for resetting the needle to this song. We had the old dresser size cabinet stereo with red silky material over the speaker cabinet . My mom &dad ,dads to sisters & my uncles moms sisters and a few other couples would all play Monopoly in the kitchen (closed to kids on weekends) now i know why monopoly nights always smelled so good. I was outside of 3 shows with a buddy and a old man paid us to go sell stone and wood bowls he made living in my buddies basement. He took good care of us. He was in early 30s i was 19 ... 30 old 😂 i leave for a 90 day Workamper contract kn Minnesota all inside warm and easy, motel paid by company. Then im heading to the RTR. ..Rubber Tramps Rendezvous in Quartzsite Arizona for 2 week anual gathering of the tribe. 2 wks after the worlds largest rv show and gathering in world..gentrification even moved in on a rolling community of full time nomads. Kids all over YOU TUBE with "hippie" in their handle ,bears marching on the wall and shirts of bands they probably can't even name 3 of the songs which received pretty much constant air time ..radio that is. I refuse to call a single song by The Dead, CSNY, Marmalade , 10 yrs After, The Band , Allman Bros, Small Faces ,WHO, Canned Heat or Marshall Tucker,Hendrix, Humble Pie ..Mainstream. Nor the true funky white boys Grand Funk!! Any younger ppl need some great old new to you jams then check out the above bands Rock on Mr. TOM

This song is Lament! It is Jerry's song.Jerry was an extraordinary man.He was very intelligent, very funny and loads of fun to be with..Jerry had a cool vibe of a very intense joy of life, but underneath it all he had a profound sorrow that was focused on the demise of Haight Ashbury and the US.He sensed how fucked things were and his inability to make things right, even with his tremendous generosity. And so he found himself sitting in Limbo with all of his addictions.

@tracyhill6166 It was a strange experience. I live in Alabama and I saw a picture of Jerry sitting in his bedroom playing banjo. Then I thought- I bet that if I walked into the room,we would become friends. So I ran away to Frisco. When I got there the Dead House was packed with people partying. I drank a 6 pack and I had to take a pass. The bathroom was upstairs. So I went up and when I came out of the bathroom there was Jerry playing his banjo.I turned away because I didn't want to bug him. But Jerry called out and said that I didn't have to go He patted his bed, so I could sit down together. He was playing all these old time Applalachian folks ones that my family band would play. So I knew all these old tunes and started to sing along and we became close friends just like I imagined.

something irks me, I can't describe its pain but it's nature is entirely compromised. Part of me feels unavoidably like it's succumbing toward paths of least resistance.
