I was at the invite-only world premiere for Great Balls of Fire at Bloor Cinemas in Toronto and I'm standin' in the lobby just before the movie having a smoke. A big black guy next to me leans over and asks for a light - he had some old stogie cigar. He was wearing a big fedora and feather boa I recall. Didn't think much of it at the time. I gave the guy a light...finished my cig and went back to my seat while the radio announcer (Dusty Shannon from Q-107) was still announcing the celebrities in the audience. She introduces Booker T. and I turn around and Booker T. stands up - it's the guy who's smoke I lit in the lobby just minutes earlier. I remember Ronnie Hawkins was sittin' in the row directly behind us that night too. Quite a few celebs in the crowd that evening. It was a memorable night.
