Wow its difficulut to wrap my head around the fact that people here believe that this trivialises or dretacts from the historical facts about the Bridge over the River Kwai. Its a simple funny jester about the actor who played the Japanese Commander in the movie who also is the fictional father of the girl whom Jerry Lewis is seeing. It is in no way disrespectful to those who sacrificed in the building or destroying of this bridge. In the real world we call this humor. Gesus.

Really great movie! Wonderful recreation by Sessue Hayakawa of his role in "The Bridge on the River Kwai."

I'll never forget his voice. The really hard part in deciding if it was him or not was that he smiled. Of course, this was a comedy after all.

I think it's worth pointing out that Bridge Over the River Kwai was released in 1957 and this film was made in 1958. I think we have a pretty good idea of what America was like in reality around then. Rosa Parks was arrested and charged in 1955... Sessue Hayakawa was an actor who played the role of Colonel Saito not actually Colonel Saito. He says in this film "no ,I am not the actor, I'm just someone who looks like him." I think it's likely some people were confusing him with the role that he played in the previous year. That's really the humor in this scene. It's now 65 years since Bridge Over the River Kwai was made and it really was different times.

Such a big movie from around the same time, it is no wonder a slight parody would be included in another film. Very funny. Also, who else remembers as kids substituting the words to that 'whistling tune' in the background of this scene and 'the tune' that became such an iconic part of the motion picture, "The Bridge On The River Kwai" with the words, "Comet, it makes your teeth turn blue, Comet, it makes your......." (I forget the rest.)? Does anyone remember the rest of the parody lyrics from back in the day? Uhh....on second thought, enough of the words are now coming back to me.....never mind. I was a warped kid, growing up in the 60's and 70's.

I have been to area of the actual bridge, seen the drawings of the survivors, and visited the graves, of some, of thousands who did not. The death and horror of making that railroad in WW II must never be forgotten, but I look at this being a parody of a British movie within a Hollywood movie.
@MrYfrank1411 ай бұрын
This movie is not laughing at the real event. They are laughing at a fictitious person who is recreating the bridge from the movie and is also the actor who portrayed the Japanese commander in the movie who is denying he was that actor. Jerry Lewis also sees the actor who protrayed the British commanding officer in the movie building the bridge in this movie.

Don't be sorry. Let's ban all Roman movies too. Millions of Christian were butchered in the Colisseum. Not to mention all those murdered to build the empire. And samurai movies! They enslaved the Japanese peasants for millennia, killing and starving them for pleasure. And crime movies. We have to consider the feelings of those who lost a dear one to crime. And Breaking bad, you know... drugs... And romantic movies. When you're unlovable, there's nothing worst than seeing other's happiness. We have to be more sensible. Comedies!! Why laugh when there's so much pain and suffering in the world???? And now that we're into it... let's put an end to all those movies with "has beens" trying to squeeze the last dime of old glories. PLEASE!!!
