Shoutouts to Jerry and all the '48 babies who are still kicking in 2024....blessings to my mother....who passed in 2012, as well as Disco Icon Donna Summer, both born in '48.

Watching this interview in 2024 while the original show plays on my dad's tv (MeTV). Me as an 80s baby/kid grew up watching the reruns of the original and was watching the New LITB when it aired.

My son met him last year in Denver at one of those comic con things. He got a signed picture for his little sister. He said he was such a nice guy and actually stood up to take a pic which apparently not all famous people do. Tony Dow was supposed to be there but I believe he got pneumonia and was hospitalized.

In the Still The Beaver TV movie (CBS) there is indeed a beautiful tribute to Hugh Beaumont as Mr. Cleaver with vintage clips and ending with the family around his tombstone with the name engraved on it as the rain comes down....

It just blows me away that now the "New" LITB show is actually "Classic TV"! I watched the original series when I was a kid and was a great fan of the new series, we Baby Boomers are truly The Older Generation now! What happened? lol! - It was indeed a great show, with great traditional American values, I sure miss the days when it was okay to me a "Real man" or a "True American Patriot", now you are punished for having American traditional values. It really was America's Golden Age.

I agree that Costas isn't really good here, but Mathers is top-notch. I kinda throught they did the Beaver character a bit wrong when they did the series in the 80s. They seemed to make him out as a loser. Beaver's problem in the original series was he trusted his friends no matter how ridiculous their suggestions were, most of which got him into some kind of mess!!
@eileenmaryomalley7402 жыл бұрын
Right Costas is not thorough enough he never saw those Leave it to Beaver episodes Jerry talked about I remember them in June 2022. They didn't talk about Larry Mondello and his mom 😂🥰

Costas was cold and abrasive. But his show was far better than any late night program today. The networks just don’t want to air good talk shows. They want angry politics in the guise of comedy.

Does anyone know what state Mayfield was supposed to be in? Was in CA?
@shettrick2 жыл бұрын
No specific state. That is the answer to this oldest and most common question asked about this show for 65 years. Despite many things in specific episodes you can point to that prove it's in Ohio or near an ocean or in California or many other places, it was intended not to be specific to any one place in the country but that it could have been anywhere, so everyone would feel it could have been near where they lived. Also, the creators/producers/writers wanted to be flexible to allow for different situations to take place in different locations. Jerry Mathers says it was set in Anywhere USA.

The show may not have been a "real" representation of 50s family and there were no people of color in it but that's the way it was back then and that's what we watched, the show is still a classic inspite of and compared to the "garbage" that's on now I would still watch it, RIP Tony Dow-forever "Wally"..
