This song always makes me tear up. Particularly when Jerry sings it. One of the most beautiful and meaningful of Hawaiian compositions. Aloha from Manoa!

Grew up in Kahaluu since i was 5yrs old (1960). Attended Waiholei elementary , Kahaluu elementary, King intermediate, and Castle high school. Surrounded by its beauty and ono food, Lau's drive-in, Texico gas station, Chevron gas station, Hygenic store, with a beautiful Banyon tree and river next to it, and the beauty of the Koolau mountains behind. Worked at Hygenic store as a stocker when i was older with my friend Mark P, Jerry practiced his music upstairs of the store, so beautiful and heart warming music to hear to this day! Spent some time at the canteen in Kahaluu, operated by Randy Kalahiki, shooting pool, and listening to live music from Tito. The Ohana in Kahaluu is so beautiful and heart warming. "Thank you Jerry"!!

This beautifully perfect song gets its depth from many Hawaiian songs that speak to the loyalty and spiritual relationship Hawaiians/locals have with the land....like it is your eternal mistress whom you love unconditionally. And when you leave...how desperate you are to keep that bond, that connection, EXACTLY as pure as it was from when you first fell under its spell. Because still, no matter where you are or how long you've been gone.....that love remains "I dreamt I was returning and my heart called out to you." Then comes the humanity. The insecurity. The guilt. The lamenting, two way fear. "But I fear you wont be like I left you" and "But I fear I am not as I left you." Any local who ever left will tell you that shit is REAL. lol But....its ok. Because the last verse says maybe we BOTH changed but it dont matter because our love endures "I will greet you as I find you" and "please accept me as you'll find me." Because NOTHING can come between us. Jerry Santos created a lyrical masterpiece, man. So human, so simple but so complex too. And oh btw, the man rips on the guitar as well. Just awesome in every facet.

Olomana came and played in our lunchroom at Mililani HS in 1980, I sat about 10 feet away from the band and was captured and transported to the truest feeling of Aloha and such talent; it was so amazing to my then heavy metal, haole soul. I bought the Seabird cassette and since that day over 40 years ago I have been listening and sharing their wonderful music. I have their catalog on cd and enjoy trips down memory lane when I need a reset island style. Oh, I also caught their gig at the pearl city mall later that same year and that sealed the deal. Also saw C and K and enjoy them too. Aloha 1980. Ua mow kaea ika aina ina opio. Was crushed when I learned of the death of Robert Beaumont in 1982, RIP.

My parents took me to Hawaii when I was a young teenager (from Canada)...while visiting the beautiful breathless islands of Hawaii I heard this song being played... I instantly fell in love with it...to this very day it still moves & touches me beyond what words can express, thank you Jerry Santos Everytime I visit the islands and see live entertainment during a brunch or occasion I request this song...they always play it. I play a cover of this song on the piano myself...one of my favorites to listen & play. thank you for sharing.

Beautiful song. Beautiful music. Brilliant songwriting and musicianship.. One of my favorite all-time songs ever. Mr. Santos is easily one of Hawaii's greatest singer-songwriters. Right up there with Brudduh Iz and Mr. Dennis Kamakahi.

🎵 I remember days when we were younger We used to catch 'o'opu in the mountain stream 'Round the Ko'olau hills we'd ride on horseback So long ago it seems it was a dream Last night I dreamt I was returning and my heart called out to you But I fear you won't be like I left you Me kealoha ku'u home o Kahalu'u I remember days when we were wiser When our world was small enough for dreams And you have lingered there my sister And I no longer can it seems Last night I dreamt I was returning and my heart called out to you But I fear I am not as I left you Me kealoha ku'u home o Kahalu'u Change is a strange thing it cannot be denied It can help you find yourself or make you lose your pride Move with it slowly as on the road we go Please do not hold on to me we all must go alone I remember days when we were smiling When we laughed and sang the whole night long And I will greet you as I find you With the sharing of a brand new song Last night I dreamt I was returning and my heart called out to you To please accept me as you'll find me Me kealoha ku'u home o Kahalu'u Me kealoha ku'u home o Kahalu'u Me kealoha ku'u home o Kahalu'u.🎵
