Classic cars like these are pretty much beautiful works of art

Jerry Seinfeld's 1952 Porsche is an America Roadster. Only 17 were built. My client and friend, the late Walter (Wally) Kieckhefer, raced this same car at the Pebble Beach road races and other venues back in the '50's. In its last race, the America Roaster, driven by Wally was hit by Johnny Von Neumann in his Porsche 550 Spyder. Wally limped the car home to finish 3rd in that, it's final race. In about 2007, I drove my 356C to a job owned by Wally. He saw my car and asked if I was a Porsche enthusiast, to which i answered "Absolutely!" He later showed me his scrapbook of cars he had owned and raced. i was amazed at the early Porsches he had owned. A few of the photos showed this America Roadster, he called it his "Roadster". He said he had crashed it and had sold it shortly after through an ad in Road & Track. He lost track of the car after that. Through email and notices in the 356 Registry I was able to track down and verify that this car still existed. It was located in Southern California and had been restored to a very high level by John Wilhoit. The current and past owners had searched for the mysterious Pebble Beach driver but were never able to locate him. I contacted the then-owner and got Wally and him together. Wally still had the Pebble Beach "participant" plaque which he gave to the owner. Sometime after that Jerry Seinfeld purchased the car from this owner. I was able to convince Wally to attend the 2011 Porsche Race Car Classic (check it out on youtube and elsewhere) where he was reunited with his old "Roadster" and chatted with Mr. Seinfeld who brought this car AND the 550 Spyder that had crashed into him so many years ago.

Being a car guy, and in the automotive industry my entire life so far, I really am appreciative of owners who drive rare cars. Anyone can build them, not everyone can skip the trailer and drive them everywhere. That is, after all, the purpose of these works of art

I totally agree with you. There are people who buy, restore, and resell. It's only an investment, which I can respect. BUT one must also drive them as they were intended and let the vehicle LIVE just like the driver should...live and drive them! Life is just too short!🤟😎

Wrong. How a car makes the driver feel - the appearance and driving experience is a car’s soul. Engine sound can be part of this, but does not have to be. Loud does not necessarily equal cool. And, by the way, electric cars do make sound - it’s just very very subdued and subtle. I’ll take subtle over noise any day.
