Funny, I just feel compassion for this man. He's so hard on himself. Glad he found some joy

Should not a a surprise to anyone that this gentleman who had a hand with Kobe and Shaq, the fairly recent Warriors players /dynasty. And as of recent days he has had a big involvement with the same organization that now just sign Kawhi Leonard.

I want nothing but peace and happiness for Jerry West. What a rare person, such a good person at his core. Never change that logo.

He knows himself so well. I saw him play for years and the key to his scoring was his stop. Watch the videos. He starts, the defender runs backwards, he stops and the defender is 10 feet away: boom 16 foot jump shot. At he end of his career, he had to fall back to get the shot off. He also stopped driving. On the other hand, he learned to handle the ball better.

Jerry west is a pure class act. After hearing how much he mentored young players like the late kobe bryant & learning in one of these clips that he had an abusive dad its wonderful how he became a father figure to young kobe. I also love how this man for decades was a Laker for life. His career thab becoming gm for many years. Like I look at other superstars who go from team to team like a journey man would & u wonder what team do they actually identify with. Lebron has moved a lot for a superstar. The cavs the heat the cavs the lakers . I guess maybe Cleveland. But when I look back on superstars of the 80s & 90s I respect how they stayed with their teams for many years through thick & thin. Bird , magic , thomas, dumars , miller it's just so rare. Like reggie miller in 96 was a free agent & his home was burned down by an arsonist his first marriage was very strained bc she wanted to be an actress & obviously indiana is not where u get roles . He wanted a ring so bad & I'm sure contenders who needed that extra guy to get them over courted him & he stayed loyal. His sister cheryl said in his last 2 years he could have went to a contender & she said reggie is a great buisness man & she felt bc he wanted a ring so badly he was foolish to stay with the pacers but she admired his loyalty. He could have been like a hardaway or payton who went to the heat leaving their long time teams to get a ring at the end of their careers. Which I get. If u want a ring so bad & yr in the decline of ur career yes go where u can get a ring. I mean does alonzo mourning ring with the heat after he played for the nets or riley giving him.a courtesy after he retired bc of his one kidney after the transplant to ride the bench & play a few min have as much weight as if he won as one of the leaders? Not really imo. Like when ewing got traded at the very end of his career to Seattle or Orlando if they won a title I feel people would put an asterisk unofficially on that bc he did not win as a lead guy.

Pat Riley wanted a lot of guys like Mario Ellie who turned out to be very productive NBA player who could have helped the Lakers. Well, Jerry was right in telling the Warriors to draft Klay Thompson and he’d resign if they traded him for Kevin Love.

A well regarded NBA executive said, "Jerry had those hands. Greatest hands I ever saw. They should bronze his hands." Because of MJ and others, people forget just how great Jerry was. If West had played in the three point era, his scoring average would have been much higher.

The GREAT VINCE CARTER, PRIME EXAMPLE of a PLAYER that SHOULD HAVE RETIRED In 2014.
@charlesappalachia82525 жыл бұрын

@koreypaul66987 жыл бұрын
Players that are still active but should have retired: Metta World Peace, Paul Pierce, Jason Terry. Vince Carter and Dirk Nowitkzki are still effective but I'm sure Jerry has them in mind...
@Bale4Bond7 жыл бұрын
I'd agree with you if you took the likes of Pierce and Nowitzki off that list. Nowitzki is still one of the Mavs few constantly good contributors (even at his age) and Pierce is still very solid at the Clippers.
@koreypaul66987 жыл бұрын
Bale4Bond Jerry here is mentioning players who are at their best mentally but deteriorating physically. He said he personality could have continued used to play and still be effective but he didn't want to be "just another player". Pretty much everyone I mentioned above is at their best mentally but are, at best, "just another player". At least none of them are All-Star caliber anymore. Now I was excluding Carter and Dirk from my list but I feel Jerry West has them in mind. Yeah, Pierce can contribute something (not much) and Dirk is still probably the best player on the Mavs but all of these guys move like old men who can't even Ben's their legs the same as the once did or as others. Dirk, Metta and Vince Carter have come out and said they want to play till 20 years. That inevitably means playing way passed you're a great player...

I think time is catching up with him too. First start the injuries and then they dont heal as fast. I think he could play a few more years but his best days are in the past. Yet still a very good player but injuries I think will become an issue like this past year.
