The man was who made the player! Elgin was probably the most underrated player in the NBA. The way Jerry talks about his character shows his legacy

Jerry & Elgin are on a metal plaque together at the L.A. Coliseum, for a reason. Those two together made basketball a success on the West Coast. Those two were so close. They enjoyed being united on a monument, forever.

Elgin was just one of the greats from the '60's who would be a star today. Don't forget about West, Robertson, Russell, Petit, Cousy, Barry, and others. Great is great.

I was at game in 1971 When they held Elgin's retirement ceremony. It was just a few games into the season Ironically the Lakers went on an insane 33 game winning streak from there. It's a shame video of him pre injury is relatively rare..he was ahead of his time. RIP Mr. Baylor

Elgin was one of the all time greats before his terrible knee injury in mid 60s, celtic fan. You do not get much better than Jerry West and Elgin Baylor ....one of my idols is Wilt Chamberlain and I took that hard when he and havlicek passed

Celtics fan here. When Dr J was coming into the NBA from the ABA the press was all over that . They were talking about J's moves to the basket , how he flew in for his dunks . I wasn't that impressed . Celtics fans had already seen and been tormented by Elgin . I'm thinking what is J going to do that Elgin didn't . Well Elgin was a terrific rebounder and played great defense . So for me the media hype was done . J was great but in my mind he wasn't Elgin . R.I.P. to both men . P.S. And there was only one Jerry West .too.
