Awesome dude! I have the exact problem! Removed the latch assembly and it started working, so I didn't want to reinstall until I found out why it wouldn't work before. Didn't want to take the assembly apart, but after seeing your video, I'm sure it must've been a piece of glass in it! The window was broken before. This video helps a ton! Thank you very much!

This was exactly my problem. I thought I'd have to replace the door latch but surprised to find a small piece of glass in there! Cleaned it out and lubed it. Works great now. Thanks! Glenn in Hawaii

Son of a b*tch! I have this exact problem with my driver's door, and I went and bought a new handle from O'Reilly for over $100 a couple years ago. It seemed to solve the problem at first, so I concluded the door handle was bad and threw the old one out. The day after the garbage man came, the shit started acting up again. Now after watching this and reading all the comments, I have no doubt I'm going to open this fkr up and find glass or pebbles or some shit in there. Well, thanks Jerry. You da man.

Thanks for a detailed well described and well filmed video the best i have seen for this issue. It was funny finding glass in the lock which as you described won’t likely apply to many. Guess what after fiddling about like all the other videos and failing I finally took the latch out and guess what? There was glass.in it!! After removing it worked great! Apparently the last owner had a broken window. What are the odds of a little piece of glass flying in just the tiny wrong spot. Too funny.

Well - tell me this, what are the odds that this is the problem with both doors at the same time? Both of the doors worked fine until they got locked with the key. Now neither of them will open from inside or out????

@@78tag well does seem unlikely both doors would fail from glass at once. But the mechanism is kind of crude any debris in it will jam it. And only way to fix it I can see is to take it out and clean/blow it out.

@@davesabola2157 I can't get the doors open so getting the panels off will ruin them. I think I need to find someone to slim-jim them open before I go any further.

@@78tag worth a try, but if the mechanism is jammed a slim jim won’t likely work. Don’t know if it helps but on mine if i pulled the handle and then turned the key at the same time it opened.

I’m having the same problem and what’s funny is I just replaced the window because while weedeating my side walk something flew out and shattered it. So month or so ago I replaced the window. A week ago I locked the door and then unlocked it and it would only unlock with the key. Just thought it was funny and lucky to have found your video

I had similar issue. But mine was the threaded part that goes to Lock Actuator from Paddle handle (looks like it screws but doesn’t). The clip on came off on one door and the other I had to adjust up/down to fine tune paddle handle. Once I did that, it was magic in the air. My video search continues for the gator clips on the paddle and how best to install. Saw the pro video out there, but it skips that part completely, similar to political leaders in the USA. Can get the out with window down, but cant get the inner by hand and there isn’t a port to adjust. About to drill me a big hole in the door. 😮

I'm in the same boat! My 92 driver side door won't open. I flipped the lever and pushed the seat to the steering wheel and was able to open the panel enough to see the mechanism but can't tell what exactly to do. Saw a different video on a 92 and he took the whole seat out. I really don't want to do that lol.

If it's like mine, you need to kind of crank on the key a bit. It feels sketchy because it feels like you're hitting something that's stuck, and you might feel like continuing to turn the key will break the key or the lock. Once you hit that point, double the amount of pressure you're using. It'll be a fairly subtle click when it pops free. Not nearly as pronounced or obvious as when you unlock the door normally.

@@mckrunchytoast2469 '92? - if the seat is still like the '89 it's just four bolts holding the seat in place. I`m still in the mode of removing the door panel. That is something I'm not looking forward to.

@@78tag I eventually fixed it, a bushing was worn out and caused the latch to over extend and essentially clamp itself shut. You have to take everything apart sadly, for my issue at least. I got my door open by taking the hardtop off and getting a flathead screwdriver on the bottom claw, tapping it with the palm of my hand while my buddy pulled on the handle. Kind of a pain but it worked

I can't open the door to work on it. I think something limiting the travel of the lock travel. I never had an issue with it before.
