Besides for winch and cover causing cooling temps to rise lets talk about if grill inserts can cause heating issues as well. grill inserts for a jeep are a great idea as they can protect the radiator from damage since the grill is so exposed to the elements. I had recently did a vortec ls swap in my Jeep tj and noticed that with the grill inserts the temps were a bit higher than normal. I decided to remove the inserts and the temperature had dropped about 7 degrees. That doesn't sound like much but that is a huge difference.

On the Jeep TJ forum there was a guy form Dubai his Jeep kept over heating. He tried everything and it turned out to be the grill inserts. He removed them and never had another problem.

I have done a LS swap on my 04 TJ. I was experiencing creeping temps 220F to 230F on a normal drive. I chased my tail for a couple of weeks, thinking I had air in the system. I had a grill overlay on. I decided to take off and take for a drive, highest temp was 197F.

You have to close the gap between the radiator and the farme. You need to eliminate any hot air going back to the front of the radiator from these gaps and gets sucked in. On the lower side of the radiator try to install an Airdam so that the hot air will not recirculate back to the front. Using aluminium metal sheet can help you close these frame-to- radiator gaps and easy to shape them.

Nice jeep you got there. I can’t say I know anything about the radiator guards but it doesn’t surprise me it was affecting the cooling some. We have several trucks we use in our landscaping business. In the winter time when we have snow plows on you have to keep an eye on your temp gauge and occasionally lower the plow a little when driving on the roads because it blocks a little to much air. Honestly though the more I think about it, that was mostly on some of the older trucks years ago. Nevertheless I always tell the guy’s who use them to keep an eye out , make sure they don’t get to running hot. That should always be a practice but you know how some are these day’s lol. Hope your running well and staying cool. I’m sure by now you got all the bugs worked out of it. I watched your oil pressure gauge install video. I have the same gauge. Anyway, thanks for showing that , seems pretty simple.

my 05 shot up to 234 with my vader grill installed. even with 4 core aluminum radiator. removed it a a last ditch effort and instantly back to normal. now to see if they faults code for cam sensor out of sync comes back. so far so good.

I've always been partial to Jeep bumpers designed so that the winch is mounted inside the bumper and doesn't block the airflow at all. Just my 2 cents

100 percent on that, any restriction in airflow will cause it to heat up to a certain extent

I took mine off when I was having heat issues and never put them back on, they were the thinner fin deign. Your guards have massive holes in them so they wouldn't protect from small stones. Your winch should block a lot of rocks anyway.

Any ideas on why mine would be over heating? 97 wrangler with the same motor swap and tranny swap and it overheats bad, everything on the cooling system has been replaced there’s no gap between radiators and condensers, I have no grill inserts and I have a big aftermarket radiator and tranny cooler, on days above 90f the engine will over heat before the tranny even gets up to 160f and on cool days on pavement and gravel roads the engine runs steady at 200f but the tranny will jump up to 215 really quick, I can’t figure it out

I have not used them. But i can see them blocking a little airflow. But 7-10° seems a tad much.

I had these on my 06 4.0 and it got so damn hot in the bbq pit of an engine bay I couldn’t open the hood without burning my hand Ripped them out after a few days.

I’m assuming you’re taking about 7 degrees Celsius...right? That’s a huge difference. That’s like 45 degrees Fahrenheit and that is called a game changer!!

Hey Jerry, I have those on my 2003 TJ 4.0 and they made mine run hot 🔥 especially at idle. It never got hot before I installed these. Out they go. I just replaced everything in the cooling system PM also.

My 2004 jeep wrangler rubicon with 4.0 also with aluminum radiator and stock fan clutch kept overheating because of these stupid grill gard 210 without.260 and above with these guards. So I highly don't recommend it. Unless you want overheating problems like I did.

I have those honeycomb grill cover . And installed a winch now my jeep is overheating the temperature gauge goes to 3/4.- so im going to remove them and c what happens.-
