@vitravaah2527I think the minimum wage in Florida is now around $12 per hour. At least that is what McDonalds is paying. Double that and you would still be hard pressed to cover all of your expenses. For what it is worth, people who doubt what is presented in this video don’t know what Florida is like today. Not to mention the ‘pay to play’ of our state government.

I moved to Florida in 1989, and a few months later, bought a brand new 3/2/2 home in Lutz for $69k. In 1997, I bought a 4/3/2 pool home in Tampa for $109k. We sold that house in June 2024 for 537k, and immediately got the hell out of Florida and moved to northeast Tennessee. We love TN! Our main reasons for moving out of Florida were the skyrocketing cost of homeowners insurance, the fear of more hurricanes, and we grew tired of the seemingly endless hot and humid weather. In TN, we get to enjoy the four seasons, much lower cost of auto and homeowners insurance, and the people are so friendly.

People born and raised in Florida don’t treat the native plants and wildlife as nuisances, they respect them. In Florida, natives have learned to accept different cultures, respect and honor them. We have lived in peace and harmony, have blended our families and our stories together. Then we got invaded. I left. So much heartbreak. I hope Florida one day returns.

Moved to Florida in 1986 and bought a home in Pasco county in 1992. You neglected to say Florida has a homestead expemption for property tax. Still, I saw the writing on the wall 15 years ago and sold last summer. Glad I did, 3400 new homes are being constructed down the street from me. I believe the biggest challenge will be securing fresh water for all these new people. We still have seasonal droughts and the price of treated water is astronomical.

Here's another warning for those considering moving to FL. A lot of insurance companies are no longer insuring homes, leaving customer with no choice but to choose Citizens Insurance, which is run by the Gov. They DO NOT PAY claims. I had a roof claim for a leak due to a hurricane, and we were put through the ringer for 3 YEARS of depositions, and waiting, and calls, and letters and more depositions, and in the end, Citizens said they refused to pay out our claim. FL has basically told it's residents to bend over and take it hard while begging for more because no one else was there to step in. If you are even considering moving to FL, let this serve as a deep and hard warning. DON'T DO IT. You will regret it and you will forever be haunted by this warning.

Hubby and I are old Florida natives. He actually is a home builder. What we did was purchased raw land with lots of oak trees and a water source, built our home, which is exactly what I asked him for, is basically a shotgun house. The entire cost of our house was 7,800. (It cost us 200 more than the house to put in water, but we made sure of two things. One, the well hits the aquifer. Two, it's got a hand pump included for when the power goes out. I can actually pump water into our house, the summer kitchen and the guest cabin, from the well.) We have no reason to purchase insurance because if something took out our entire house, we can just rebuild it. It costs less to replace our house then it does to pay for property insurance for three months. The people who are moving in are obviously spendthrifts. They won't be able to keep the property that they have purchased and as soon as a big bad hurricane comes, most of them are out anyway. Florida wins!

The only thing that has not changed is my property taxes $1600.00 but that’s due to being homesteaded. If you’re a snow bird your taxes will follow the market and that’s a lot of money. Any kind of home repair is 80% higher here a new A/C system in 2007 was $4500 for a high end Lenox system that system today is $30,000.00. The electric is expensive we keep our house at 80 degrees yes we have a pool but it’s a high efficiency variable speed pump and we still pay minimum $250.00 a month. The only things Florida has going for it is no income tax, personal property tax, homestead exemption of $50000.00. The contractors are all scam artists the builders are hack national builders building junk just for profit. Florida was beautiful now it’s a nightmare, we call it little New York, all rich have moved in and pushing us who lived here for years out. I am looking at moving to North Carolina or South Carolina. They have had a lot of growth, and have to deal with a lot more traffic, but they try to time their shopping and activities when the traffic is lighter. I've been here 7 years and find it basically accurate. Homeowners went from $3200 to $7500--no claims, but due to Surfside Ho6 policies for townhomes were impacted IF you had replacement cost for personal property. Ridiculous. While no state income tax, there is a FL surcharge on practically everything most people don't notice: Pet insurance? Yup. Mobile phone? not sure FL state and Federal but your locality (city) also charges. Netflix? Yup. I could go on. All that adds up. And before someone says I should simply move? When I saw this, I could not resist making a comment. I moved to Florida in 1981, have disliked it all 40+years I have been here. I was originally from Northern Michigan, then Southern California, then Northern Virginia, then Arizona, last Florida. I can honestly say Florida is the worst of all of them. I stayed here because my elderly parents lived here. They have since passed, so I will be leaving soon. Looking into Tennessee, or Kentucky. Would actually love to get out of the south, but would not be able to handle the cold and snow of Michigan. I certainly would not ever want to live in S.Carolina. This man is correct on how expensive it has become to live here. If one does not like beaches, there is no reason to live here. Its too hot, humid, too many bugs, traffic is horrible. I am tired of worrying about hurricanes every summer as well. It is a nice place to visit, especially in the winter months, but do not come and live here permanenly, you very well might regret it. It's hot to say the least, how ever most days are sunny and where I am in Central Florida we have a slight breeze most days. I have been a homeowner for over forty years and bought and sold more than a few homes. Choose your city/town carefully. St.Pete was great in the 60's, but the taxes and traffic had my Parents moving us farther north. We live in a small waterfront community that takes pride in preserving what we have. Great schools, parks, an hour from Tampa, Clearwater, Ocala, or Orlando. The quality of life is here for now. I started watching wondering if this was going to be insightful. When, at the 2 :08 mark you say Florida accounts for 79% of all insurance lawsuits "while the other 51 states account for 21%" I wondered if this was a joke. I'm a homeowner in Florida. 7th generation. I've mapped the State for years with a map-making company, so I'm familiar with Florida at a depth and detail you can only imagine, and, in my experience, a lot of what you say here is wildly overstated, or represents an extreme example that you're presenting as "normal," when it's not. Crime and traffic vary greatly county by county, and even mile by mile, and crime is lower in most of Florida than most states in the country. Where I live, it's practically non-existent. And trying to get people worked up about lightning and rain? Seriously? I have very reasonable homeowner policy and car insurance, and the rates haven't gone up more than a few % in the past 20 years. My neighbor had a tree fall on his house in a hurricane and his insurance company had a crew working on it WHILE the storm was still blowing. They paid out in a few days and gave him a generous settlement. So, yeah, "good luck trying to collect." Oh, and I just paid $12k for a new roof on my 3BR home. If someone was quoted $42k, they should call the police, unless they want it shingled with gold and diamonds. I understand that you're trying to talk people out of moving to Florida because you want to sell them homes in SC, but come on, man.

My insurance has been going up drastically within the last four years. Went up about 35% from last year. Currently paying $11,000! Can’t imagine it going up another 40% next year. Lived in this same house for 30 years, no where near the coast and have never had a direct hurricane impact. I’m a single income household, who could always afford my mortgage/bills and now I’m going back to living paycheck to paycheck because of of the homeowners and car insurance rates are unaffordable. It’s not right that there’s no cap on insurance and they can continue to raise rates. I am feed up with these legal crooks. I would leave this state tomorrow if I could, but feel stuck here for right now and don’t know what to do.

I remember Amelia island 🏝️, formerly American Beach, Florida when it was a clean, lazy beach town, dirt roads, quiet and safe. My family would go each Sunday to swim & have a picnic oceanside during the summer. The sand was white & the air was pure, fun in the sun! One could walk around town leisurely 😂no traffic, bad 🐕 dogs or 👛 purse snatchers, drugs or drunks 😂. Day and night Amelia island was safe. Decades later this little sleepy lazy, clean beach have CHANGED forever. I no longer miss going to the beaches in Florida. Atlantic beach was a nice place to go as well, but it's changed too. We moved from Westchester County in New York and lived in Florida for 13 years. Taxes and insurance were a little higher than NY, but our house was twice as big. The worst aspects about FL insurance was the possibility of being dropped and the deductible. Our deductible was 20% of the actual value of our home. We enjoyed living there for six months of the year. I liked the heat, but not the hurricane threat. Several times we had to flee hurricanes. From south Florida it is a five to six hour drive at 70 MPH just to the state line with Georgia. From there you have to head to Atlanta or the mountains of SC or NC - 15 or 16 hour drive. After our first evacuation we decided we were going to make our escapes hurrications and planned visits to places we thought would be nice to visit. The traffic is pretty bad and the mix of drivers creates a hazard every time you have to head out. After leaving my job, we moved to the Low Country of SC. We miss a lot of the great things about FL, but really like the people, slower pace, and the beauty here. We still have alligators, mosquitos, and hot humid weather. Costs are substantially lower. Hurricanes, though far fewer, are still a reality.

Americans do not know that Congress did a sleight of hand with insurance. Americans do not understand that it was insurance instruments that facilitated the Great Financial Crash. Americans do not know that insurance has lobbied themselves a “deregulation deal” where Congress let them out of capitalizing insurance policies, when no one was looking. The only television outlet that broadcast the dramatic devastating change was Bloomberg business news put it on their bottom ticker tape. The year was 2009. Now our premiums go to the C-Suites and 3rd party reinsurance hedge funds on the stock market, and we are factually being forced to prop up institutional finance with our insurance payments. Insurers then turn around and all use the same 3rd party’s tech software to cheat on claims. All of this activity is fleecing property owners, and has been classified as a cartel, with AG’s and FTC looking into it. The situation needs to be addressed nationally, before it takes down more than the American citizens and our economy.

I can attest to the lightning strikes. In my folks 30 years living there they have been struck twice now. Once was at least 20 years ago on a tree in the side yard. About 4 years ago they had a new bulkhead installed because the old one had failed (they had just paid off the house and had to refinance). Two years later and the ground for the new bulkhead seemed to have already sunk down by about 2 inches. Well long story short I discover 14 out of the 15, 18-8 5/8' threaded stainless steel tie back rods are just vaporized at the cribbing. Mind you this bulkhead was about two years old at this point. Insurance would not cover it and the folks are getting old so I had to dig it all up and re-thread varying sections of new rod through the pilings, cribbing and into a matching coupler. It was a real trick lining that all up since the pilings had already shifted some. Still blows my mind how a lightning strike did that. It superheated the rods causing them to lose their anti-corrosive properties and rust out rapidly. The back yard is 75 feet across. 5 dead men with three tie-back rods each. 14 out of 15 fried then rusted into premature failure.
