@vitravaah2527I think the minimum wage in Florida is now around $12 per hour. At least that is what McDonalds is paying. Double that and you would still be hard pressed to cover all of your expenses. For what it is worth, people who doubt what is presented in this video don’t know what Florida is like today. Not to mention the ‘pay to play’ of our state government.

I moved to Florida in 1989, and a few months later, bought a brand new 3/2/2 home in Lutz for $69k. In 1997, I bought a 4/3/2 pool home in Tampa for $109k. We sold that house in June 2024 for 537k, and immediately got the hell out of Florida and moved to northeast Tennessee. We love TN! Our main reasons for moving out of Florida were the skyrocketing cost of homeowners insurance, the fear of more hurricanes, and we grew tired of the seemingly endless hot and humid weather. In TN, we get to enjoy the four seasons, much lower cost of auto and homeowners insurance, and the people are so friendly.

I’m native, I had to leave Florida to find my people again. I don’t know, but I doubt there’s another state in the union where the people and culture is so disregarded and denigrated. People born and raised in Florida don’t treat the native plants and wildlife as nuisances, they respect them. In Florida, natives have learned to accept different cultures, respect and honor them. We have lived in peace and harmony, have blended our families and our stories together. Then we got invaded. I left. So much heartbreak. I hope Florida one day returns.

I was clueless(Michigan). All my life I thought southern States were summery in the winters. NOT!! Kentucky driving through 6 inches of snow. Tennessee bitter cold. Texas unpleasant and cold. New Mexico?? I'm sure hot, dry and desert like?? NOPE! Bloomington NM, snowstorm, trucks sliding off roadways, wintery blizzard like and unpleasantly cold! Arizona, nicer, but far from t-shirt weather. Still uncomfortably chilly. Eventually, first stop in FL, Vero Beach in winter. Sure maybe 42° at night or maybe lower, wake up to a high of 82° days!! Yayyy, finally found my year round summer State!! 🌞

Insurers are in the business to build reserves from premiums to pay claims for insured losses. This is a high risk state with re to certain property perils. Insurance carriers are in business to make $, they aren’t not for profit organizations. Some years they do not make $. If they can’t make $ in a state they will leave. Citizens (state run) wasn’t charging premiums based on the true risk and as a result didn’t have enough premium to pay claims and other insurers are having to make up for it.

Moved out in 2021, went through many many hurricanes and every single time if you could get an adjuster to come out and assess your damage, the insurance company would give you at least 30% less than it actually cost to fix the damage. Once they underpaid everybody’s claims they would run to the state and lobby for a big increase for the following years insurance premiums, and the state always gave them what they wanted. Let's hope she doesn't experience a fire. If she is well inland & nowhere near the river (keep trees well away) she should be ok with the risk. If that same hurricane can drop anywhere close to 20" of rain that can cause flooding anywhere in Florida.

Hubby and I are old Florida natives. He actually is a home builder. What we did was purchased raw land with lots of oak trees and a water source, built our home, which is exactly what I asked him for, is basically a shotgun house. The entire cost of our house was 7,800. (It cost us 200 more than the house to put in water, but we made sure of two things. One, the well hits the aquifer. Two, it's got a hand pump included for when the power goes out. I can actually pump water into our house, the summer kitchen and the guest cabin, from the well.) We have no reason to purchase insurance because if something took out our entire house, we can just rebuild it. It costs less to replace our house then it does to pay for property insurance for three months. The people who are moving in are obviously spendthrifts. They won't be able to keep the property that they have purchased and as soon as a big bad hurricane comes, most of them are out anyway. Florida wins!

When I bought my first property in Massachusetts during the early 1990s, interest rates on mortgages were typically between 8% and 10%. It's likely that we won't see rates as low as 3% again anytime soon. As a result, sellers may need to lower their asking prices to attract buyers. This could lead to lower property valuations as well.

I started watching wondering if this was going to be insightful. When, at the 2 :08 mark you say Florida accounts for 79% of all insurance lawsuits "while the other 51 states account for 21%" I wondered if this was a joke. I'm a homeowner in Florida. 7th generation. I've mapped the State for years with a map-making company, so I'm familiar with Florida at a depth and detail you can only imagine, and, in my experience, a lot of what you say here is wildly overstated, or represents an extreme example that you're presenting as "normal," when it's not. Crime and traffic vary greatly county by county, and even mile by mile, and crime is lower in most of Florida than most states in the country. Where I live, it's practically non-existent. And trying to get people worked up about lightning and rain? Seriously? I have very reasonable homeowner policy and car insurance, and the rates haven't gone up more than a few % in the past 20 years. My neighbor had a tree fall on his house in a hurricane and his insurance company had a crew working on it WHILE the storm was still blowing. They paid out in a few days and gave him a generous settlement. So, yeah, "good luck trying to collect." Oh, and I just paid $12k for a new roof on my 3BR home. If someone was quoted $42k, they should call the police, unless they want it shingled with gold and diamonds. I understand that you're trying to talk people out of moving to Florida because you want to sell them homes in SC, but come on, man.

I lived in Miami my entire life, but things changed as of 2020. The congestion became so overwhelming that no matter what time, what day, what area, what direction you were driving in, it was a parking lot. The heat and humidity is beyond unbearable. The people are NOT friendly, let me tell you. Unless you know them, people will scowl at you, or walk past you as if smiles are expensive. Drivers are statistically the worst in the country. And unless you're in the beach areas or the MONEY areas, Miami is just ugly. It's just one house after another (all boring to look at). It's all flat land and palm trees. And don't get me started on the corrupt communistic gov of DeSantis who's effectively trying to indoctrinate our kids into a mentality of communism under his gov that wants to dictate our thoughts, our beliefs, our rights, our freedoms, and our health. I left FL with zero regret and moved to GA where life is peaceful for the first time in my life. Trust me when I tell you all, FLORIDA SUCKS! Don't buy into the delusion that FL is paradise with it's weather and the beaches. If you live here, you have to work hard to afford it, leaving you NO time to enjoy the touristy things that made you romanticize living here. The reality is it sucks!

Hubby and I moved here in 2020 from Peoria, Illinois. Bought our house in the Largo area before the prices went crazy. Real estate taxes and homeowners insurance is still less than Illinois. Sales tax, gas prices (prices in general) are lower in Florida than Illinois. Florida had no state income tax which is also cool. There’s lots of crime in Illinois. Peoria is called “little Chicago” for a reason. Illinois has snowstorms, ice storms, severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, floods and even the occasional earthquake. The earthquakes were no big deal, but the snow, ice, tornadoes, and floods can be devastating. There are poisonous spiders (Black Widow, Brown Recluse), and plenty of poisonous snakes. Fortunately, there are no alligators except those in zoos. The sky is cloudy and the landscape is grey and brown for about 6 months out of the year. I’m staying in Florida!

When I saw this, I could not resist making a comment. I moved to Florida in 1981, have disliked it all 40+years I have been here. I was originally from Northern Michigan, then Southern California, then Northern Virginia, then Arizona, last Florida. I can honestly say Florida is the worst of all of them. I stayed here because my elderly parents lived here. They have since passed, so I will be leaving soon. Looking into Tennessee, or Kentucky. Would actually love to get out of the south, but would not be able to handle the cold and snow of Michigan. I certainly would not ever want to live in S.Carolina. This man is correct on how expensive it has become to live here. If one does not like beaches, there is no reason to live here. Its too hot, humid, too many bugs, traffic is horrible. I am tired of worrying about hurricanes every summer as well. It is a nice place to visit, especially in the winter months, but do not come and live here permanenly, you very well might regret it. Oh another thing..Scientology is big here in Pinellas County, they have taken over the city of Clearwater, and have ruined this place. DO NOT MOVE TO FLORIDA.

Having lived in Florida most of my life I know first hand the good and bad of Florida. It's hot to say the least, how ever most days are sunny and where I am in Central Florida we have a slight breeze most days. I have been a homeowner for over forty years and bought and sold more than a few homes. Choose your city/town carefully. St.Pete was great in the 60's, but the taxes and traffic had my Parents moving us farther north. We live in a small waterfront community that takes pride in preserving what we have. Great schools, parks, an hour from Tampa, Clearwater, Ocala, or Orlando. The quality of life is here for now. Hopefully it will continue for future generations as my Grandson now runs his own business here after graduating from College. Yes insurance can be an issue, you have to shop around, but our property taxes are reasonable, and did not double-unlike my taxes on my home in Georgia.

Here's another warning for those considering moving to FL. A lot of insurance companies are no longer insuring homes, leaving customer with no choice but to choose Citizens Insurance, which is run by the Gov. They DO NOT PAY claims. I had a roof claim for a leak due to a hurricane, and we were put through the ringer for 3 YEARS of depositions, and waiting, and calls, and letters and more depositions, and in the end, Citizens said they refused to pay out our claim. FL has basically told it's residents to bend over and take it hard while begging for more because no one else was there to step in. If you are even considering moving to FL, let this serve as a deep and hard warning. DON'T DO IT. You will regret it and you will forever be haunted by this warning.

The only thing that has not changed is my property taxes $1600.00 but that’s due to being homesteaded. If you’re a snow bird your taxes will follow the market and that’s a lot of money. Any kind of home repair is 80% higher here a new A/C system in 2007 was $4500 for a high end Lenox system that system today is $30,000.00. The electric is expensive we keep our house at 80 degrees yes we have a pool but it’s a high efficiency variable speed pump and we still pay minimum $250.00 a month. The only things Florida has going for it is no income tax, personal property tax, homestead exemption of $50000.00. The contractors are all scam artists the builders are hack national builders building junk just for profit. Florida was beautiful now it’s a nightmare, we call it little New York, all rich have moved in and pushing us who lived here for years out. I am looking at moving to North Carolina or South Carolina. I've been here 7 years and find it basically accurate. Homeowners went from $3200 to $7500--no claims, but due to Surfside Ho6 policies for townhomes were impacted IF you had replacement cost for personal property. Ridiculous. While no state income tax, there is a FL surcharge on practically everything most people don't notice: Pet insurance? Yup. Mobile phone? not sure FL state and Federal but your locality (city) also charges. Netflix? Yup. I could go on. All that adds up. And before someone says I should simply move? On my dance card in the next couple of years, hopefully.

Americans do not know that Congress did a sleight of hand with insurance. Americans do not understand that it was insurance instruments that facilitated the Great Financial Crash. Americans do not know that insurance has lobbied themselves a “deregulation deal” where Congress let them out of capitalizing insurance policies, when no one was looking. The only television outlet that broadcast the dramatic devastating change was Bloomberg business news put it on their bottom ticker tape. The year was 2009. Now our premiums go to the C-Suites and 3rd party reinsurance hedge funds on the stock market, and we are factually being forced to prop up institutional finance with our insurance payments. Insurers then turn around and all use the same 3rd party’s tech software to cheat on claims. All of this activity is fleecing property owners, and has been classified as a cartel, with AG’s and FTC looking into it. The situation needs to be addressed nationally, before it takes down more than the American citizens and our economy.

We moved from Westchester County in New York and lived in Florida for 13 years. Taxes and insurance were a little higher than NY, but our house was twice as big. The worst aspects about FL insurance was the possibility of being dropped and the deductible. Our deductible was 20% of the actual value of our home. We enjoyed living there for six months of the year. I liked the heat, but not the hurricane threat. Several times we had to flee hurricanes. From south Florida it is a five to six hour drive at 70 MPH just to the state line with Georgia. From there you have to head to Atlanta or the mountains of SC or NC - 15 or 16 hour drive. After our first evacuation we decided we were going to make our escapes hurrications and planned visits to places we thought would be nice to visit. The traffic is pretty bad and the mix of drivers creates a hazard every time you have to head out. After leaving my job, we moved to the Low Country of SC. We miss a lot of the great things about FL, but really like the people, slower pace, and the beauty here. We still have alligators, mosquitos, and hot humid weather. Costs are substantially lower. Hurricanes, though far fewer, are still a reality.

I'm in a small southern California town with beautiful weather and reasonable property tax rates, no lines at the grocery store, only a couple of stoplights in town, no speed limits over 40 miles an hour, all the roads are single lane, I have a nice Jeep and my car insurance rates are about $90 per month, my homeowners insurance is about $85 per month. I make $130,000 per year working from home and only have to work about 15 hours a week. the beach is 20 minutes away, the mountains are an hour away and all my neighbors are super cool.

bob if you make $130K per year and are living in a ghost town, that probably there is nothing to do, you are saving a lot of money to be able to retire someplace else where you can have fun. The place where you live sound very boring even for an 82 year old lady like me. I will be depressed living in a town with only two or 3 stoplights. I will stay in Miami as long as I can afford my condo close to Coconut Grove where my only son lives, and close to Coral Gables, Downtown Miami, Mia Airport. I do not need to drive because in Miami we a Free shuttle going to Coral Gables and downtown Miami in case you do not want to drive. .

I live in Ormond Beach 5 minutes from the beach and nothing you said is true. Brand new roof cost me $ 18,000.00. Home owners insurance $ 1,700.00 per year. Car insurance for 2 cars one with collision $ 1,450.00 per year. I've lived here since 2015 and the worst hurricane I've ever lived through was Sandy when I lived in New Jersey. So maybe your a bit byass Mr real estate owner. By the way the biggest cost of living has taken place in the past 3 1/2 years of the Biden administration.

Native multi-generation Floridian who never thought I'd be leaving. Will have waterfront home purchased in the 80's ready for sale in next few months. Political nonsense (note I am registered Republican) and cost of living is untenable. Homeowners premium went from $3000 to $6800 to $16,900 in last three years. 31 years with insurer, zero claims, made no difference. Terribly sad that greed and politicians' personal agendas have taken over.

Unfortunatelly one of the broters was killed. They were bored to death. So it is better not to live in any paradise. You will ended up being crazy with nothing to do.

My home owners insurance went from 10500 to 750 on similarly valued house when I moved to the Carolinas. It was new construction and elevated from the flood plane by several feet. It was a bunker. On the low chance anything did happen to the house it wasn’t like they were going to cover it or I could sue them either. It’s a crime what is going on. Funny I would never leave (I'm also native Miami) Florida. My taxes haven't gone up much although my house has. My Dad bought a house in North Carolina and that summer Hugo ripped the roof off his house. (Not shingles but the rafters and all then slammed them back down). I now live in North Central Fl. near the Santa Fe and Swanee rivers and love it. My 700K home has a 2200.00 tax bill every year. That's not outrageous.
