This might save LOTS of time: "First off, if you suspect your charging port is going bad, it probably isn't. Grab a flashlight and a safety pin/needle, shine the light into the charging port and you will probably see a bunch of lint tightly jammed into the back of the port that is preventing the cable from fully inserting. In my case, it was about 3 years worth of lint that got compressed tighter into the port every time i plugged in my charge cable. Just turn your phone off (I don't know if crossing the pins will hurt your phone, but it's better to be safe than sorry.) and use the needle to gently fish the lint out of the port and your phone will probably work as good as new. I looked into my old port before replacing it and it looked clear, but I didn't shine a light into it. I spent about an hour swapping out the parts, sweating bullets the entire time, when I could have just cleaned the port out in 10 seconds. Literally 2 minutes after completing the repair, I looked into the old port again, saw the lint, and felt really dumb." P Gorman Somehow I consider myself somewhat techy, yet this was the exact solution!!! I physically removed at least 1mm of compressed lint. I now see that the chargers go fully into my port as apposed to before removing the lint (this should have been an obvious sign but yet I still had no idea). ALSO another lint related issue that you helped me realize... siri and facetiming the mic would work 5% of the time and i removed lint from the mic between the camera and flash (iPhone5) Thank you :)

@atDonJuan8 жыл бұрын
If you're having charging problems--particularly if you have to wiggle the cable a bit for the phone to begin charging: first, try a different cable. If the problem persists, then take a toothpick and clean out your charging port. What happens is that lint piles up at the end of the port, and the cable can no longer fully slide in. Remove the lint and see if it improves. If not, then you might want to consider replacing the entire port.

Just an FYI for anyone attempting iphone 5s repairs....This is a really excellent tutorial! I just want to point out one thing. It is very very important that the four screws that go into the metal plate over the LCD go back into the exact holes that they came out of. They are 4 different sizes, and you can damage your logic board if you put them back incorrectly.
@JerryRigEverything10 жыл бұрын
Angie Person Very good tip. Thanks for mentioning it.

I hate seeing destroyed logic boards JerryRigEverything. Really great walk through.

JerryRigEverything what happens if you put them in the wrong way. They look like only two different types. Not 4. That would have been good to ckarify
@AngiePerson10 жыл бұрын
Dan Witting it will crack the MoBo and your phone won't work unless somebody solders the leads in the board back. It may look like two, but I believe it is 3, and best practice is to keep track of which one goes where.

Hey JerryRig, I was having trouble with my iPhone 5s charging. I always had to wiggle and prop up the cord to get it to charge. I checked out your video and some comments. After reading the comments about the build-up of lint in the charging port and your comment that a wooden toothpick works, I tried it. I took a round toothpick and flattened it with pliers so that it would fit all the way into the port. I pulled out a whole lot of lint! After I removed the lint, my phone is charging. The cord went further into the charging port and I didn't need any wiggling of the charger cord to get it to charge. Thanks for the video and the advice in the comments!

i experienced this 'can't be charged things" and etc. But at that time after watching this actually very useful video i still doubt that the problem is in my quite new charger cable that ive just bought in less than 6 months. So before i started doing this thing and another thing, i used an optical spray (the one that you usually uses to clean your glasses that says FOR ANTI-REFLECTIVE GLASS OR PLASTIC LENSES) a pinset, and a small piece of cloth simply to clean the inner side of both sides on that cable. And after i had cleaned the inner side of both of them, i found it the piece of cloth that im using to be dark in colour (so i supposed its dusty and not very clean inside on both of the inner sides). Fortunately after doing this, i was able to charge my phone. Hope this lil tip will help you.

You are a Star Jerry, thanks very much. My biggest problem was reconnecting the ribbon cable connector's, probally my fingers are a little too big and that I was overcareful and scared to damage the connector if not properly aligned .... fyi, the new OEM charging port connector was supplied with colored plastic foil on several places which needs peeling away to expose the pre fixed glue on the new unit. Thanks again Jerry

i did this, and it worked great! i got all of my parts and tools from jerry's links posted here. it got a little hairy at times. removing the battery was a sketchy (bc i also changed the battery while i had the thing apart.) i had to pry it out with extreme prejudice. and the metal clip he warns you about in the last step was a bit tricky, but it was kinda fun.

My replacement worked fine; thanks. The bracket that holds on the Home-Button connector was a little tricky, I had to un-stick it from the old charging port assy and fit it into place but it only goes one way so it was easy enough once I figured out that I needed it. I got lucky and tried my phone before I seated the screen; lo and behold, I got stripes on the wallpaper and no swipe function. It turns out it took me three tries to get the top edge of the ribbon connector closest to the top center to connect. I could test it by hitting the on button on the top of the phone so I knew when I got it to connect. I tested it after each screw of those four that hold the plate down. Once the plate is down, it'll stay. Then back to the Home Button latch (like he says; tricky) and fasten the screen. I put in a new battery while I had it apart so once it was charged 5%, I could do the testing stuff I listed above. Thanks; It's a good phone again now.

Mr. Jerry, I just saw your others video related to an iphone 5. My question is: I saw that in the replacement video of the battery/screen of an iphone 5 there was no ribbon connector attach to the botton, just as it did in this video. Could it be that it's only attach in the iphone 5s and not in the case of an iphone 5?
@ellenphilpotts-troy20985 жыл бұрын
Since nobody responded, the answer is yes. The iphone 5s have a ribbon connected to the touch id. And sometimes when you replace the screen or battery it will screw up the touch id.
