The metal chassis has a hole located in roughly the middle of the phone, and Google engineers ran the wireless coil through that. The whole chassis is then coated in a plastic resin. Voila, a metal-bodied smartphone with wireless charging. Those Google engineers can be pretty innovative when they put their minds to it.
