The new Chevy Silverado EV RST is the new long range Electric Truck KING. With an advertised range of 440 miles. Today we find out how realistic that range actually is with a 440 mile road trip from Las Vegas Nevada to Phoenix Arizona. Watch Dans video HERE: • FIRST Range Test of BE...
Ambient temperature outside during this test was a rainy 68 degrees F (20C) There is about 1000ft of elevation drop between Las Vegas and Phoenix. 95% of the time we were going the speed limit on public roads (55mph to 75mph) - except for the dirt road diversion to film and do the truck walkaround.

No point in buying the silverado. Silverado owners manul says no offroading. 50,000 mile less battery warranty. Over 2,000lbs heavier than a CT a lot lower efficiency. more expensive charging. GM is getting 2.0 mil per kwh and rivian is getting 2.6. Probably see mostly 150kwh charging IRL so the GM is putting range back in at 300 miles per hour. Rivian is gettng 390 miles of range an hour and the CT is at 375. The GM has hit some pretty good speeds as far as how much power is going into the truck when you find a working CCS charger with the max KWH. However Range in miles per minute added due to lack of efficiency makes that look like it was necessary to keep up with the competition. I drive a gas truck when I actuall drive a truck the rest of the time a model 3 because its AWD, runs 11s and gets 4.5 miles per kwh. The old 6.2 V8 and 6 spd modded raptor will obliterate any EV in off road and range and the model 3 is plenty quick on the street.

What they Need to concentrate on is making service for the likes of damage to cost almost nothing not a strike of battery protector totalling a car or a hit on rear bumper totalling a truck. These things should cost a couple grand at absolute most. A battery replacement should cost less than the engine of a gas/diesel.... As we evolve to less toxic and more abundant and attainable battery components (not lithium) they should cost almost nothing to produce and passed on to end user at a comparably low price.

I'll get a used 2WD diesel to tow lizzos food truck from NY to LA in January and ALSO get a used BETTER EV to do normal real life where it's charged every morning and I can get home at the end of the day to plug in with enough left. I own an avalanche, and I use the midgate often enough. It would be great if the original ones had this 60/40 split though, with the EV they listened to the customers that own and love these, you can drop part of the back seat AND a section of the midgate if you leave the glass and crossbar there, then you can seat three. Some avalanches had the bench front seat and can still have three people though, very rare option, like the HD Avalanche

This truck must have been designed by a tradesman, or at least had one consulted on during its design. It's got everything that works just right for people in the rough work trade like construction, plumbing, contracting, woodworking etc. That tailgate that becomes a step, the built-in step in case you can't use the one in the tailgate, the removable back wall and the way it's designed to stow everything away neatly - the glass panel and the seatbelt clips - the rear power outlets, the switchable rearview mirror.....everything's just so useful and functional, and keeps away neatly when not needed.

I mention Tesla specifically because I’ve only seen KZbin videos of teardowns of their battery packs. I wouldn't say it's made like an "actual truck". I've been waiting to see exactly that, but the sail panel makes it more of an Avalanche than a regular Silverado (or F150/Ram1500). How about we just give it a normal bed that can accept normal truck accessories and be used by a contractor/mobile tech/etc, the option to not have that giant rear seat (don't need to haul the kiddies around when you're working), and loose some of the high profit margin extras - then we'll have an "actual truck". If they could put this tech into basically a normal Silverado I might have an option that could replace my 3.0 duramax. But I do understand that most people buy 1/2 tons, and ESPECIALLY EVs as lifestyle vehicles these days instead of working trucks. So hopefully in a few years we'll actually get to a viable EV work truck platform. I figure I've got about 3 more years on my current truck ('22, 50K now, usually change at 100k) so maybe the timing will work ou.

These are irrefutable facts, we do not generate enough electricity now, the power grid is in shambles and failing now, and we are CLOSING down critical power plants at an alarming, increasing rate. We would need decades and billions of dollars to rebuild and upgrade/expand the power grid, and the construction of a new power plant ever year for decades to even make this EV joke a viable option.

I once owned a 2005 Nakid Avalanche 4x4 Z71. I bought used in 2006, with only 8,900 miles. Totally trouble free for my entire 5 years and 78,000 miles. The only negative was 12-20 mpg depending how many lights, traffic and speed. The most I ever hauled was a load a sheet rock from Home Depot to home to finish the basement, a total of 28, 4x8 sheets at 68 lbs each a total of 1,904 lbs plus 50 lbs of screws. All weather tight under the hard bed cover with the window left in. The truck rode fantastic, got an average of 15 mpg round trip, then when I got home I was easily able to drive through to the walk in basement entrance that was up one hill and down another, all in 4low. The gas tank was 35 gallons that got a total of at least 400 miles all over The Smokey Mountains and Tail Of The Dragon, on a trip to Pigeon Forge. That also happened when a refinery failure caused a gas shortage in the mid Atlantic states. We stopped at 1/4 tank at the foot of Rt. 441 in N. C. , where the next gas station was over the mountains and 40 miles, mostly uphill at 10 mpg! The max amount of gas was 5 gallons each. I explained how I was a dumb Yankee from MA and needed more on vacation to get to where I was going. The owner of the small gas station was very friendly and allowed us to fill up at the reg price! Easily done in 5 minutes, for 32 gallons.

You correctly attribute the "sail panel" to the older Chevy Avalanche (also called a flying buttress on the even older Pontiac Fiero), but seem not to remember that the Avalanche pioneered the step bumper we see in todays GM pickups, as well as the Midgate cargo extension feature. In the Avalanche (also seen in the Cadillac Escalade EXT and the Hummer H2 SUT), the folding hard tonneau allowed the midgate to fold while the back glass remained in place.. which allowed over 8 feet of covered and weatherproof storage (real handy for lumber shopping in the rain, and less cavernous in the H2, obviously). I am really gratified and appreciative that your review and enthusiasm is sparking new conversations about these innovative features, because I feel they were under appreciated when they were originally released to the public.

This is the everything-but-the-kitchen-sink version so maybe the more basic trims will put it within range. $72,500 would still be a stretch for people like myself, but coupled with no gas costs nor oil changes and other forms of maintenance needed it could work. Depends on charging costs, insurance premiums, and the more frequently needed new tires due to the weight. All that aside, this thing is awesome. The fold down back cab wall is brilliant. So much thought went into getting maximum use out of this truck. The price is justified by its function rather than being jacked up by essentially useless bells and whistles.

I generally feel like sub-6ft beds defeat the purpose of a truck, but something like that could actually justify a short bed and let you get the compact value out of a smaller truck without sacrificing usability. This new Electric Avalanche is so cool, but pretty expensive too. I owned an Avalanche for 14 years and yes it had the same midgate design when it was built in 2003, everything was the same as this new truck. That feature alone was revolutionary. I could easily slide a long couch into the bed and further into the cab and still shove things between it and the closed tailgate. There was nothing that Avalanche couldn't haul. I once drove over 40 miles to pick up unfinished wood flooring, slid it into the truck with the midgate down and drove the entire load home in the pouring rain without getting any of the wood flooring wet as you could leave the bed covers on and the rear window in place with the midgate folded. Loved my Avalanche.

25 years ago I entered the Tour De Sol (1st time) with an electric powered pickup truck that had a solar array where you might find a carpenter's rack. Everyone else had small, sleek, light-weight cars. We came in 7th place out of 50 entrants beating Ford, Toyota, Daimler-Chrysler and MIT. The following year there were roughly 15 pickup trucks at the race and a couple of the big companies would only show there vehicles and not compete.
