That was my uncles boat. He built it in Alabama and owned it for over 40 years. I worked with him and my dad on it for almost 4 years my uncle joe rose named it after my aunt sue rose. He sold it about 5 years ago to a company in r.i and now she's where she is. She has been in this family a long time and it's sad to see where it's at now. Our vessel was the Heidi/Kristi out of Jerusalem Harbor, Point Judith RI. . Originally name Venus, she was built in Plymouth Mass she was an 76 foot wood trawler eastern rig .. She collided with a ferry on her maiden voyage and sunk in the bay. Raised and refitted she earned a good living up to the late 80s when she again sunk off RI due to a broken valve. Lovely vessel to work on and solid sea faring even in a storm . Miss my day of being a ship mate on a trawler . Thanks .

Why was it lifted out of its watery grave? Was foul play suspected? Or was it a navigational hazard? Seems like a lot of money spent on a boat that is more than likely just scrap?

@ I had to do a google search on that fishing vessel. I’m not familiar with the back story, that was never revealed. I live in Connecticut far enough away from the disaster. Once I read about the whole story that the crew let the boat ground itself on the beach. Then being pulled out & subsequently sinking in only 50 feet of water. I knew right away that part of the structure would be very close to the surface of the water. Then I answered my own question that the boat would indeed be considered scrap & sold off by the pound. That the insurance company was going to be on the hook for everything. The next question would be about the crew. I know they were rescued. They might be on the hook with the owner of the company for the eventual destruction of the boat? I wouldn’t want be on the crew during their exit interview. Then being black balled forever for allowing that to happen?

@@bradmagnuson6963 They’d be very lucky if that is all they lost? They might be on the hook for any all expenses incurred by the owner of the vessel beyond what insurance allows & any & all increases in insurance premiums. They’d be lucky if all they had left after that would be their dignity. Sleeping without someone on watch is perilous especially in congested waters of the northeast. They could have struck a boat out fishing or someone else on their boat also taking it easy. Very stupid in my book. They could have killed someone? They’re lucky it was only property damage?

Refurbished, salvaging a sunken boat for scarp wouldn't make any sense. It would cost more to raise it then the scrap steel is worth. If they weren't planning or rebuilding her they would have just left it on the bottom. The only exception is when the wreck is blocking a channel or a hazard to navigation then the CG will probably make you remove the wreck.

@jerseyshorefireresponse23 күн бұрын
For one it wasn’t properly sunk, still had diesel in it and wasn’t sunk in about 50ft of water. It’s been a Navigational hazard for a year at low tide the beam was only 18 feet under the surface level of the ocean. There was multiple other issues with the Boat being on the ground as it didn’t sink as they wanted to. They will clean the boat and properly re-sync it off the coast in a safe spot to make an artificial reef.
