This was mind blowing. Kedar dissects the history of Islam and their own intra-political conflicts that lead Muslims prohibited to do the Hajj to Mecca decide to bring it to Jerusalem that they had conquered and had power to do so. Etc. Eventually it didn’t stick, but the idea that Jerusalem is significant in Islam does not constitute a historic or legitimate reason to consider it a candidate to be the the capital of Arab/Palestine of today.

You need to remember that such surnames became mandatory in Europe only in the 17th. century or so, and did not exist prior to that. My first name, which is Hebrew for "lion", is the one you need to focus on. That appellation was handed down to me from my Jewish ancestors in Israel millenia ago. So that the surname you purport to admire so much was an historically very recent addendum demanded by State law - the first name is the ancient and authentic one which confirms identity.
