Somebody earlier commented on them wearing black - I personally do not care what they wear - black, red, pink or other - as long as they play with this type of quality and dedication - after all it is the music that counts !! Many thanks for uploading these superb pieces !!

The opening chord is impeccable and their collaboration throughout the first movement is beyond words; a blissful primarius like Alexander Pavlovsky is utterly rare

Looking for a string quartet with one of each instrument (violin, viola, cello, bass). Can someone recommend a composer and piece? Thanks

It's very good, but the Jerusalem Quartet have also made a studio recording of this work which is even better in my opinion.

Haydn, Bruckner, Stravinsky and Messiaen are the never-boring composers. The problem is that Haydn wrote many works not intended to be interpreted before the public, but simply to be played, for example his baryton trios. Much of Haydn music has never succeeded in the concert-hall or on the stage simply because it is simply domestic music.

this quartet is from 1799; by that time works like this were performed in public settings.

If you like "Wiener Klassik" why not listen to one of the earliest proponents? Joseph, You did great!

hehe, he reminds a bit of him, but a terrific violinist though!

I don't think so, because he can only play repeated notes (like at the Olympic opening ceremony).

You are incorrect, much of Haydn`s music is not known, simply because of the volume of his output and the exaggeration of " Mozart worship". The Operas are now making their rightful inroads into the living repertory. The symphonies and quartets, masses, sonatas and the concertos are also doing well. The baryton trios are masterful and somewhat known. While being an A list composer, the stupidity over Mozart has slowed his progress. H. is a very original composer and less likable at first.
