The SEAL community made a mistake I believe in Venturas case. Ventura didnt sue and take money from Mrs.Kyle either it was from a insurance company. Ventura had the right to sue about a lie attached to him. Whether you like him or not. We all know that many people stretch the truth considerably and downright lie. Often we misremember things. Even pretty good people. When my daughter was young I often told people I stopped trying to drag her stubborn self around by the arm because I read that parents often dislocated the child’s shoulder that way. Nearly 40 years later I found out she had been telling friends and family I had dislocated her shoulder when she was a preschooler. I did not read the book or watch the movie (movies about real people or events are littered with inaccuracies in order to add drama). But you have two guys in a bar. A BAR. Without at least video from unbiased security cameras and/or testimony from multiples who did not drink I would have doubts myself. Most people go to bars to drink. How little alcohol does it take to start negatively influencing mood, judgement, motor skills, and memory. Ventura won. Don’t know why the original verdict was thrown out but he was subsequently compensated. We will never know exactly what happened. Not even if Kyle intentionally lied or misremembered or the other way around.

Kyle claimed the police were on the scene...and that the entire incident was caught on security videotape. When the story went through a fact-check, it was found that there were no police reports, no coroner’s report, no coroner’s inquest, no record from any district attorney’s office anywhere in Texas, no surveillance camera tape...and absolutely no newspaper/media coverage that this story ever took place.

That's not always true. If the settlement would cost less than defending yourself, you very well might just pay. Additionally, if, for example, you're on a world tour, you're off in Europe making a couple of million dollars a night, and someone sues you in California, it might cost you significantly less to just pay them what they're asking for and continue your tour rather than cancelling it, sacrificing all those million dollar tour dates.

Actually Kyle had eleven witnesses testify but the problem is they gave conflicting accounts as to what they saw and heard that night. Four different locations were given as to where the alleged punch took place. Kyle himself gave a five hour video taped deposition before his death and his testimony conflicted with his witnesses. Ventura had five witnesses four of whom where members of his Buds class 58 reunion testify they saw no fight and never heard of any fight in the years following the alleged incident. Mr. Kyle had the opportunity to defend himself at a 2012 pre-trial video taped deposition. Under cross examination from Ventura’s lawyers, Mr. Kyle gave answers that were inconsistent with previous details that he had given in his book. Mr. Kyle’s answers were played in front of a jury. Also, the witnesses for the Chris Kyle Estate could not keep their stories straight. One witness testified to seeing Ventura laying on the ground OUTSIDE of McP’s…..another witness testified to seeing Ventura laying on the patio INSIDE McP’s…..another witness testified to seeing Ventura wearing a Hawaiian shirt inside McP’s hours before Ventura even landed at San Diego, thereby making the testimony an impossibility. The witnesses who were with Jesse Ventura that night at Mc P’s, all testified that no such fight ever happened. In 2014, HarperCollins, which published Mr. Kyle’s book, “American Sniper”, announced that they would be removing the entire chapter entitled, “Punching Out Scruff Face” from future printings of the book. The fact that Mr. Kyle’s own publisher ultimately refused to stand behind his story speaks volumes.

Jesse Ventura never sued the widow. He sued Chris Kyle for fabricating the “McP’s Bar Punch Story”….and then using that fabricated story as a marketing tool to sell his book. After Chris died, the lawsuit automatically reverted to his estate. Taya Kyle chose to be the executor of the Chris Kyle Estate. She could have very easily let a lawyer be the executor instead. Of course, there was a lot of money involved in the form of book royalties from HarperCollins. Speaking of which: Mr. Kyle REPEATEDLY claimed in interviews that he had donated 100% of his book royalty money to charity. Mr Kyle also claimed that families of fallen vets were calling him weekly to tearfully thank him for his financial generosity. And yet, that whole story turned out to be just another “Chris Kyle fabrication”. Court records from 2014 revealed that of the 3 million dollars that Mr. Kyle received in book royalties, only 2% of that money actually went to charity. The other 98% was pocketed by Mr. Kyle himself. Taya Kyle later claimed that tax laws prevented her husband from giving away any more money than he actually did......and that she and Chris hadn’t had the opportunity to establish a nonprofit organization that could dispense such funds. Just as Jussie Smollett was able to fool a lot of people with his fabricated stories, Chris Kyle also was able to fool a lot of people with his fabricated tall tales. In June of that year they actually met and Jesse said if you agree that you've fabricated the story about punching me, i will drop the lawsuit, we'll shake hands and walk our separate ways and Kyle wouldn't do that. Kyle died February and lawsuit was then transferred to his estate. In July of 2014, the court ruled in favour of mr Ventura for unjust enrichment and awarded 1,8 million dollars that and here's the thing: mrs Kyle hasn't suffered any monetary losses. It's all being paid by insurance by by the book company. The settlement they reach now is because of this bs: 32 media conglomerates entered the case to have it overturned. They can now be able to defame you and make off it and you won't get a penny
