Jesse Ventura recalls the painful lesson he learned when asking for medical attention during Navy training

I was in the navy. And there was a guy in my bootcamp that wanted to be a seal. He was ripped. Not an ounce of fat. Pure muscles. He went to the training and didnt get past the first week. Being in great shape. Doesn’t mean your gonna make it. Mentally is a big part of it💯👋
@IAmMyself350411 ай бұрын
From all the interviews of past seals Ive read, its more of a physical- mental fortitude thing, as long as you are strong enough physically, very good when it comes to endurance and excellent in mental fortitude, you'll be good as long as you dont get injured.

Jesse served in UDT 12. He was stationed in the Philipines and South Korea during the Vietnam War. There is no evidence of him ever having gone on a mission anywhere. I think he admitted years ago that he was never in actual combat during his military service. People did find out things when he ran for office. He had to walk back his claims about having hunted humans and I believe he had some problems with his comments about being exposed to agent orange in Vietnam.
@gregrock74516 жыл бұрын
You don't need to go into combat to rate wearing the "Budweiser," you just need to pass the SEAL course. In fact: I'm not entirely sure about this, but I do believe that in some rare cases, a servicemember can elect to go through SEAL training without accepting a spot on the teams if they pass; they would rate to wear the trident pin. Unless I miss my guess, you're talking about the National Defense Service Medal. If so: you don't need to go into combat to rate one. For that matter, you don't need to such much as deploy to a "hot area" to get one, or even be assigned to any unit of any kind at all. The NDSM is awarded to anyone who serves in either an active duty or reserve capacity within a time frame designated as the time period for a particular war. I got an NDSM for having taken part in combat operations as a tank gunner in the Marine Corps during Operation Desert Storm; when we got back from the sandbox, the new guys who joined our unit after having done nothing more than graduate from boot camp and complete the basic armor course at Ft. Knox got one too. It should come as no surprise that the NDSM is a ribbon/medal that is not typically perceived as having oodles of prestige and esteem attached to it; we used to refer to it as "The Firewatch Ribbon." As for running ops in South Korea and the Phillipines: if either the North Vietnamese or the Viet Cong ever projected military force in either or those places during the Vietnam War, this would be the first time I ever heard of it.

I was on the PT course on Okinawa, Camp Smedley Butler one morning, and a Marine got off the pull up bar and looked at his hands. There were three or four torn calluses on the inside. A gritty old sergeant was there and said, “What you need to do is go home and put some lemon on that.” The Jarhead looks at that sergeant and says, “Will that help it?” The sergeant says, “No. But, it builds character.”

Wrong. Ventura sued Kyle. Kyle was murdered prior to the settlement. Ventura had the opportunity to settle for a verdict -- he won the case -- without pursuit of/ collecting monetary "damages." But he didn't. Jesse-the-asshole-Ventura demanded payment in full from Kyle's FAMILY (Kyle's estate was his family's assets). This action by Ventura is absolutely despicable. He got the win from the judge but his fragile ego demanded money. Even if he (Ventura) were a highly decorated CMOH recipient, such reprensible actions as that which he did by choice renders him a scumbag
@silverhorder19697 жыл бұрын
I kinda sided with the verdict of the jury. Kyle didn't mention Ventura's name in his book, but later came out and said it was Ventura and the story about punching him, which the Jury believed never took place. There were photos taken of Ventura 3 days later show no signs that an altercation took place. After the story broke sales of Kyles book skyrocketed! He clearly profited from this story. On behalf of defaming Ventura. I can perfectly understand why Ventura was pissed about this! Regardless of the fact that Kyle died later does not change the fact that huge profits were made from Kyle making this claim. A claim that appeared to be false. Even though both did claim to be in the bar and there were a few wittinesses on behalf of both of them. Evidence that there was no wounds to Ventura's face kinda points there was no fight. If Kyle did punch Ventura then he was a pussy for picking a fight with Ventura who is kinda crippled up now with his hip and other injuries. If Ventura had been the same age then go ahead and take a swing at the big guy, but if that were the case Kyle would probably gotten smashed! Just saying, I think it was made up.
@UberTankred7 жыл бұрын
It was the publisher of the book who had to pay damages. Not Kyle's family, you despicable liar. Chris Kyle had the enormous luck that he got killed before he had to admit, that he had lied about Ventura. Everything was Kyle's fault alone and Ventura didn't do anything but defend himself against a liar, you coward.
@musingsandmore86307 жыл бұрын
I would love to "meet" in person these pricks on here, so bad ass slanderous in their typing, yet absolute real pussies in reality I bet ... I have no opinion on the matter, frankly, what I state is what I have read. No one knows what really happened between Kyle and Ventura, if anything. Only Kyle knew and Ventura knows and no one else. Estates get sued, not book publishers. It was well reported in all of the media at the time that Ventura-the-asshole collected on the estate of Kyle, which after his death was in the hands of his family. Only a mother fucking prick would conduct oneself as such.

It's funny because when you talk to Team guys, none of them give a shit about BUDS. These days unless you've got a couple combat deployments under your belt (some of the guys have 12-14) with some decent accomplishments, other SEALS don't care about what you have to say. notice how at the beginning, right up until this interview, and the one before it, he was sitting his body so that his arms were crossed, with his back straight, completely defensive, unreadable, could be on the verge of acting emotionally erratic, but as soon as his parents are brought up, and he talks about his time in the military, and what his father told him, his entire posture and demeanor changes, it's clear he's incredibly emotionally invested in this honestly.

I graduated from Navy boot camp in Feb 88. I was one of about twenty sailors who took the screen test for Navy SEAL training. I was young and in great shape. I passed the screen test and was offered a spot in the next SEAL class. However, after suffering thru that screen test, it just reinforced my belief that being a Navy SEAL was NOT for me!! MUCH RESPECT for any of the guys who made it thru to earn their trident!!

Ventura: titled as a seal, a wrestler, a mayor, and governor. He did it all with honest leadership, sure he served his country, but most of all he didnt do it for america he did it for the people of this, his, our country. Because he believes in freedom and prosperity. He is a dangerous man to those who have an agenda to control and limit our freedoms but to those who are for no limitations he would fight beside with honor, u can title men alot of things but this man is a truely amazing above all hero who has beat all odds through his honesty even when attempts to destroy and deminish his reputation this man proved that honesty is above all and truth always wins i honor u ventura u are my Muhammad Ali my hero 🫵

People on this thread arguing like, “He was never in Vietnam.” They say, “he was not a seal because he was in UDT.” Here’s why those comments are ignorant: When Ventura was on active duty (1969-73) he was in UDT. SEALs did not exist. After active duty, he went into the reserves and was assigned to SEAL Team One (1973-75.) So, even if someone wants to disqualify UDT on semantics (an illegitimate and petty argument), Ventura was assigned to a SEAL team named a SEAL time. Next, what is a “Vietnam veteran” according to the military? Answer: someone who served during a specific period for a specified number of days. It can be service in theater or elsewhere in the world. He rates the Navy ‘Vietnam Service Ribbon (VSM) and therefore also rates the title, ‘Vietnam veteran.’ Nobody can take that away. What I found interesting, in researching this, is that few details of Ventura’s service are available. However, he once made a reference to “hunting men.” So, it seems he engaged the enemy somewhere, or at least went out to do so. One last thing: Nobody who never served rates to diminish the career of someone who did serve. Even if they received a BCD, at least they put on the uniform.

Every Navy SEAL I know and have worked with will tell you that he has every right to call him self a former SEAL. Those who say other wise arent SEALs and have no voice in the matter. Great Statement btw!!

I have herd Don Shipley and Marcus Lutrell say that Jesse is a SEAL and thats good enough for me. Your statement however is not entirely accurate. The SEAL Teams first went to Vietnam in 1962 and they were founded not long before so they existed at the same time as the UDT even though the UDT had been around since probably Korea. In World War II they were known as Naval Combat Demolition Units or NCDUs the mission was similar but not the same UDTs differed in that they did take on some Commando type missions on land infiltrating from the water or sea. They were not however the same as SEALS who regularly operate in all enviornments. A guy that Jesse regularly claims as a close friend Dick Marcinko that founded SEAL Team 6 addresses this in his book. Marcinko himself was a UDT at the same time as Ventura but unlike Ventura he went through what was at the time called SEAL Replacement Training and is presumably now called SEAL Qualification Training. Both UDTs and SEALs went through and graduated BUDS but graduating BUDS does NOT make one a SEAL. There are quite a few other things like SQT mentioned above before they pin on a Trident. Now we can assume that Jesse bieng assigned to SEAL Team 2 as a reservist and the fact he did recruiting and is even featured on an early recruiting poster for them he probably went through some early version of this SQT or maybe was gradfathered in somehow but that is where the confusion comes from. Members of the WWII OSS and First Special Service Force and Alamo Scouts to name a few are considered grandfathered in to the modern day Army Special Forces( Green Berets) and the Special Forces Association has gone out of its way to do so.
