Ever since the World Wrestling Federation began giving out signed deals, there has been debate over the term "independent contractor" and what the company should actually have exclusivity over.
Jesse Ventura got an offer to star in a video game which was set to be released on Sega Genesis. Vince McMahon told Jesse he couldn't do it causing Ventura to quit the WWF.
Jesse argues that he should be able to take any deals and wrestle anywhere since he is an "independent contractor". Vince felt differently however and the rest is history.

Just look at what john cena said when he spoke on this. Vince owns the copy rights to his name. Johns government name is john cena so if he leaves wwe he literally cant even use his own gov name. That's how a lot of trucking companies say their employees are independent contractors I actually beat a couple companies with the labor commission the key thing is if you're an independent contractor you set your own time when you going to start when a company tells you what your start time you are an employee I don't care if you signed a paper or not

UFC does the same thing. They treat you like an independent contractor but you can't do anything outside of the organization. I mean there's a ton of other stuff I can list that they won't let you do, what they keep, what they don't give you, and what your allowed to have. Randy Couture testified in front of Congress on how UFC is a strict fight game monopoly and its even got worse considering UFC's Reebok deal which forced fighters to not be able to sell what little space they did have on their shorts for sponsors. Fighters used to rake in a little bit of extra cash from selling space on their shorts but UFC was like "my organization my rules" so now its just Redbox trash with a little UFC logo. So sad....

I get that wrestling isn’t taken seriously by the general public, but what most of them don’t know, or didn’t know until the WWE was sold for billions is that it’s been on tv since most local news broadcasts. Back to the late 1940’s to at least the mid 50’s, the highest paid athlete was the heavyweight champ in boxing, the next highest two or three paid were Professional Wrestlers,?usually champs of their territory.
