I have this and a Canon R3 and I love my Sony. But I do tend to find myself feeling more inclined to pick up the Canon more due to how it feels and the ergonomics. The rear screens are a huge difference

I have an FX30 and I absolutely love the feel of it. I love that its 90 degree edges make it feel more like a tool and less like a friend. When I see it on my desk, I see its simplicity and it inspires me to use it to create -- I don't know how to explain it. In fact, its the comfortable bit on the right (& that half of the face) that I dislike the most. Obviously, I want a comfortable way to hold it, but I would prefer if it was like a stainless-steel pole you could wrap your fingers around or smth like that. Something with more simple shapes.

I literally just used it for my first wedding of the year, rigged out with a small rig v-mount battery plate and v-mount battery, A cage, and a top handle and monitor. Having 12,800 ISO was like unlocking a new level. I learned how to shoot log with the Canon R6, but with three to four more stops of dynamic range, it blows my R6's out of the water in terms of image quality.

I remember when the C70 was announced. On the screen, it appeared to be everything I needed. Perfection.I was hyped AF. But then i tried it, and didnt like it at all. I reluctantly tried the fx3, and to my suprise, loved it, and still do.

I think you’ll find better quality results if you use CineEI mode. It took me a long time to film in Slog3 and then even longer to try CineEI but now I shoot in that mode and simulate my exposure two stops down while filming so that my footage is on the brighter side. Then I just pull down the exposure when grading and the shadows are so clean. You may hate how cumbersome that feels at first but after doing it for just a bit you’ll get used to it and I know you’ll love the resulting quality of your footage. 😁

CineEI doesn’t actually affect image quality, it’s just kind of a way to set limits and monitor yourself. You can achieve the same quality in flexibleISO, you just keep it at native ISO and slightly overexpose the same way.

I actually cut this part from the video, since there are pros and cons to both setups. I like having my dials set for shutter aputure and ISO but you can’t do that in cine EI, at least not in the order I like them. But set to PASM you don’t get the benefit of all the top buttons. It’s quite silly.

I think the least important thing is how the box looks if you buy a product. At least i know that it didnt take as much resource to make the box. As long as it protects the product im fine with it. Hey Jesse, I actually think any ISO between base 640-800 is worse than 12,800. Have you tried using CINE-EI mode and being forced to use only 800 or 12800 ISO .(the base ISO in cine ei is 800 instead of 640 for some reason) The cool thing though is you can switch between 800 and 12800 with just one button press. No scrolling through the ISO.

Today, the FX3 sells for $3,898, A7S III is $3,198, Blackmagic PYXIS 6K is $2,995, Panasonic S5 IIX is $1,997, Sigma fp with 45mm lens bundle is $1,799. I see a Sigma fp used for $1,146 on ebay, which is what I'd probably get. I'm still shoting with Micro four-thirds on a BMPCC4K

For a guy with big paws the FX3 feels so secure. I am yet to have it slip out of my hands. The form factor is so solid. But the menu system is near hideous. Sony could make it so much easier to navigate. But I love the camera. I have no regrets at all.

I was fully satisfied with the A7Siii and at first didn't see the point in the FX3 until I tried it, now my main setup is the FX3 with an FX30 as the B cam. I feel pretty much the same as you, it's not entirely perfect but its close enough for now. I'm not so bothered about super huge resolution, 4K is enough, September when the new firmware update is out will be nice to have shutter angle not speed. Maybe if they made a V2 with built in ND that would be nice!

It's a camera that does nearly everything so well it makes it boring to use! I think the screen for me is the big let down. The image on the screen of any canon, Blackmagic or Panasonic camera is going to get you far more excited for what your shooting than the Sonys

He hates the body design snd the buttons , those were the only complaints.. the fx 30 looks and feels the same but not full frame. It will be just as bad or worse jn his eyes. Do not worry, these probelms are non issues. The ONLY REAL ISSUE w this camera is the shitty xlr top handle

You should only use 800 (or 640) and 12800. Nothing else (when shooting Slog-3.... use Phantom Luts for an Arri-like look). You can use 100-2000 iso in Scinetone for great colors straight out the camera.

Man, I had the FX3 when it first came out, Had to sell in the pandemic unfortunately and got an A7IV which I actually love but it over heats like crazy, Since a year I have been back to doing 99% video and contemplating getting the FX30 or Fx3 if I can scrape the funds together.. Not sure if I can get by with the FX30 which is way cheaper and wait until the FX3II which might come out really "soon". One of my concerns also is with my A7IV I shoot 16:9 and have no problems cropping to vertical and it is really good quality and sharp but it is a downsampled 6K sensor. Would the FX3 have the same quality since it is only a 4.6K sensor? I never got a chance to use 16:9 and crop to vertical when I had it. Apparently the FX30 is also from a 6-7K sensor and I am wondering if it is going to crop better for that purpose..? I also do not shoot much super low light. Any suggestions from any professionals that may have a user experience with this? Thanks!!

I;ve had the a7SIII since launch. WAs waiting for it since some dissatisfaction with the A7SII and A7III. Thing is, as soon as I got my hands on it I kind of hate it. I can;t find anything when I nee it. There are so many _gotchas_ - modes/functions that are disabled as a side-effect of some _other_ setting being toggled on/off. It's madness. I don't film now and i can really blame the camera. I just cannot like it. it doesnt bring me joy at all. I have missed so many opportunities because I just thought UGH I don;t want to pull that out right now. Oddly, that has really changed my life. I am fully in to the alpha ecosystem i cant just switch to something else and at the same time, nothing else checks as many of the boxes the SIII does. It's a small internal struggle I silently deal with.

Every sony will have the lens button , you cant do nothing about it so complaining wont help, you can customize the buttons if you dont like their placement, these are all made up issues other than the body being a brick. PERSONALLY i like it more than the a7SIII body but that is my opinion and i respect that you dont. But everything else that was in the video is a non issue. Also if we are being fair and square you could have gotten the fx3 when you first touched the fx3 and decided that you absolutely despise the body design. Man, you nailed it. The fx3 is a "work"horse so it's not the most fun and inspiring camera to take out but when you are on a paid shoot, damn are you glad to have this camera with you😂. The IBIS on the R5 made it largely unusable for a lot of my shooting which involves wide angle lenses and being handheld. The only option they gave you to disable the IBIS was to turn the IS switch on lens off but this disabled both forms of stabilization, a far worse option than software disabled IBIS and lens enabled IS. I also found the R5 frustrating that it lacked CLOG2 making matching with the C70 worse than it needed it be.

Jesus Christ. Idk. Honestly, the images look good enough on digital whatever for the last 10 years actualy. So whats in the shot matters more than what camera you use... I dont think you would be able to tell a big difference between 5dmk2 raw with ML vs R5 in 1080p. I think its possible to shoot anything on R5. Maybe. at least to my taste in terms of cameras and sensors The old Reds look kinda good. And they cost like 2k now.

The way the Canon IBIS system handles it with lenses 24mm and wider looks like garbage to me when trying to shoot a certain way. And I'm not saying the image of the R5 was bad at all! I thought it was exceptional, but I also owned a C70 and I much preferred shooting CLOG2, having to work harder to match 2 different profiles is annoying and arbitrary, and needing to choose a lesser picture profile on the C70 in order to match what was canon's highest end mirrorless camera at the time was also silly. I really like Canon's cameras, and I think they're making a lot of great decisions, but for me the FX3 is still better suited and more versatile. Did I mention that the R5 doesn't record audio when recording slow motion? That was also an annoyance for my shooting.

@@JesseDriftwood idk. It looked like you shoot in a studio. And the whole point of shooting in studio is - you can use gear for whatever. Put your camera on frekin wheels, shake solved, if your floor is even. I think handheld is for documentary. Of course its a preffrence i suppose. but that at least makes sense to me... For documentary work sure. The lighter, the better. Alpha 4 is blowing away!!! You have 1 second to take a shot, and you better be ready. If it is basicaly anything staged! It doesnt matter wether you have a frekin IBIS! You have time to make anything work. It realy doesnt change a thing wether you have it or not... Or its just lazyness!!! Sony historicaly make worse cameras. Sony historicaly always look worse. Higher frame rates, yes. Worse looking? Always! They always had a consumer mentality, not professional. Even with "professional" products, it was somehow consumery. Also FX3 has a camcordery feel to the image. So does canon unfortunetly though... But Canon were always, more robust, and actualy trying to make things good! Sony started to change things around just because of Canons success i think. They were way in the back... The only thing that changed my mind is sony Alphas, they partnered with one other company, i forgot the name, and that changed everything for them... It is still sony, there is something.
