So glad that you’re doing this. Personally, I find these videos to be helpful as, although I have the passion and curiosity to take AP music theory, my school isn’t offering it. Super helpful. Keep it up.

I've recently dived back into music after a hiatus. And now I'm realizing that in my sad 5 years of music classes, we were taught hardly any theory whatsoever. It was just learn these notes, play these notes. Wash, rinse, repeat.

I know you said they are evenly dividing the ocatve, but you should of said they are simetric chords. Thats kind of the common term for it. Also add that you can play the same dim or aug chord a minor or mayor third (minor in case od aug and minor in case of dim) respectibely entire all the notes
@AmandaKaymusic6 жыл бұрын
He does mention that diminished and augmented chords are called symmetrical at 2:40 I personally have never heard them called symmetrical chords though I can see that they are so it was useful for me just in case someone ever says "play a symmetrical there" I'll know what they are talking about. Dim or Aug sounds more helpful and clarifying and I wouldn't have to think twice.

@stantorren440011 ай бұрын
Look at what scale you’re using and the key you’re in: And then decide “Where would this chord fit” Generally, diminished and augmented chords are used to increase tension before they resonate on an other chord
@Kshitijj4 жыл бұрын
Quick question. Do all diminished chords have to have a minor third like the one shown here?
@twominutemusictheory4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the definition of a diminished triad is three notes separated by two minor 3rds.

So A diminished chord is only made from a minor chord? Please anyone answer me😭
@samschoneveld92532 жыл бұрын
I don't get how the diminished chord splits the octave into fourths. It seems to me like it splits the octave evenly into minor thirds, not fourths. I'm slightly confused🙈
@twominutemusictheory2 жыл бұрын
Ooh, good point. That’s confusing terminology. I meant literally the fraction 1/4th. Not the musical interval. My bad.

So I'm confused. The diminished D is D + Fb + Ab? or D + F + Ab? Or both? Also does diminished work with inversions?
@valvihk36493 жыл бұрын
D major has F and C sharped. The video states that the diminished lowers the 5th. I'm guessing its D F Ab. Since A is not sharped in D major we lower the natural to a flat and the 3rd must be in a minor meaning we lower F sharped to a natural. So, from a major chord lower 3rd and 5th to get a diminished chord.

The Tritone is an augmented 4th, whereas an Augmented chord is an augmented 5th.
