Jessica Savitch is still one of the best anchors, interviewees, and reporters ever to grace TV. A tragic ending to what was a great career and could have gone on for decades. Still my favorite. Forever and a day.

WoW...I can't believe it's almost 40 years since her passing! What a role model for young women. Had she lived, television would have taken a different direction. And her talking about an upstart "CNN" and the beginning of a new PBS series "Frontline"....blows my mind.

Jessica, as beautiful and smart and talented as she was, had a problem with drugs and alcohol. That ages a person. That said. she was always my idol, because of her I went to college to get my broadcast journalism degree.

Jessica was only about 35 (if this was 1982 or 83). It's not so much her looks, but she presented and carried herself very wise and "adult" which just made her seem WAY older, like a classy sophisticated 55 year old. Its hard for me to imagine women my age today looking like this lol

I was 12 when she died and I was a serious news nerd and a turned on little kid. I’d watch her every chance I got because I thought she was beautiful, which she is. But until today after looking her up due to these videos, I had no clue she was 36. Still a looker, but she seriously looks like she’s in her early to mid 50’s. So sad though the way she died. Must have been so frightening.

Such a great interview. And when Jessica talked about her late husband that was revealing. It's sad to know she was not ok and continued to destroy her life. Tragic that she seemed to have turned that corner after the Digest breakdown only to die in the car accident shortly after. "We all thought.... we would get our ticket stamped validated happily ever after." 05:27 So true. Just breaks my heart for her. Still optimistic that her love life would come through. But then a few months later she's dead.Her clinical response about her second husbands dead is sad. Not like that these days when people put it all out there.

Trying to put a date to this interview. It had to have been between when Anchorwoman was published in 1982 and when Jessica Savitch died - October 1983 at 36, drowned as a passenger in a car driven off the road.

@sdnewsom4985
@sdnewsom4985 4 жыл бұрын
Another thing that I found very weird about this interview was shortly before 1 minute and 42 seconds. Jessica Savitch says "This is the when you stop beating your wife question folks" moment, and smiles as if this is something very normal to say in an interview. That moment for me, I literally said, What The Fuck? If she really went through being beating by any man, or drugs, that's nothing to smile about, SERIOUSLY. When she said this, it made me look at her sideways, like lady you need some help. Domestic violence, abuse of any kind is nothing to smile about. That's a horrible thing to say, especially when you're being asked questions about your career.
@marigold7250
@marigold7250 3 жыл бұрын
@@sdnewsom4985 I think she meant if someone asked you when you stopped beating your wife and you answered, any answer you give would sound like you are admitting it's true. She was comparing it to the question he asked about being pretty, it was a weird comparison, but her point was about the way the question was phrased.

Lay off her looks people. A lot has to do with the hairstyle, clothing choice and makeup. She really tried to look mature, due to her profession. If you see a few photos of her when she was relaxing at the time, she looks like any other 36 year old lady. Sure, she did a few drugs, but seriously it's more the styling that ages her here.

@@creamcheese1048 It's just interesting sociologically to compare differences between then and now. I don't think the OP was being disrespectful, it's simply true that people seemed to age faster/seem much older in the 80s. She carried herself very "adult" and wise. I'm around that age now and watching this if I were to meet her I'd view her as an elder

If I’m Not Mistaken, I Would Say Bill Had a Crush On Jessica. Observe the Ends Hand Shake. He Prolongs His While Jessica Breaks Away. Just Before, He States In an Almost Regretful Way How Their Paths Almost Crossed at The Old Station. It is My Observance That Jessica Appears to Be A Cold Fish. But I Do Not Say This With Any Animosity. The Causes and Effects Of Her Own Decision Making have Manifested Tolls In Her Life. Right Out the Gate Of Life. Just As All Of Our Choices Find Us in Our Future Reality. No. If He Had a Crush, I Would Say He Was Saved. I Believe Human Souls Are Immortal and One Day, When Both These Souls Are Ready, They Will Cross.

I met this lovely woman in Philadelphia in 1981. I was a professional athlete for a Philly based team. I was asked to attend a charity event she was MCing. She asked for my # , we chatted a couple of times on the phone & decided to meet for dinner. That began a brief but intense affair. I was your typical athlete & took advantage of my status to be with many women. Many. She took me to places no other woman could. We became obsessed with each other. However, she had a hard time with being away with the team & she hated that women would approach me in front of her. We both decided it wasn’t going to work but remained friends until that fateful accident. I love you my Jess.
