Ok, I'm no fashion expert, but I was so confused by the Preppy designer's complaint about Jayla's outfit. Am I the only one who associates "naval" with preppy? Like, just picture a navy-striped polo, khaki or white shorts, boat shoes, Ray-Ban sunglasses, a half-million dollar sailboat or yacht... That's literally a Preppy Playboy Starter Kit.
@JEPiper Жыл бұрын
Naval is leisure wear for preps!

Preppy is like... neat buttoned up, think Oxford University- eg. Mona Lisa Smile. Jackets, shirts, trousers, or fluted skirts with Oxford brogues, heels etc. Ben Sherman borders on a lot though... the clothes in that place weren't what I think as typical Ben Sherman style at all. Polo tops, checked shirts, centre-fold trousers... and the check shirts border on punk too - paired with drainpipe jeans and doc Martins you have quintessential punk... Their interpretations of styles are so odd sometimes.

they actually don't usually provide high heels for models during go-sees/castings, unless they potentially see you as a candidate for the fashion show in which case they would want to see you walk wearing their outfit. But even then sometimes you have to wear your own shoes because they might not have your shoe size on the spot 😅

It hurts my heart to see the dark skinned Black women get treated so poorly on this show.... Also Jayla did the American Punk just fine. British punk is way flashier that American Punk. Also I think Bri did a good job as preppy. At that point in time preppy included short denim skirts like that.

"punk" as someone who grew up around the music genre thanks to my sister (who was born in the 80s and loved it), and who dressed what can only be described as a mix of punk and emo in my teenage years.... None of that was punk. Even discarding the "high price fashion" perspective (where if you truly wanna dress punk, you shouldn't be spending a lot of money and should adapt the clothes you own or thrift them, it's really not expensive to modify cheap stuff)... None of that was punk. Unless I'm missing the particular subset they were depicting here.
