This song is so sad and tender, it really encapsulates a lot of what women and girls, specifically go through. Such a raw bundle of nerves at a time when girls don’t know who they are, who they want to be and what is expected of them… it’s all so very tragic because you just want to sympathize so much with them, you want to reassure them that they’re not alone and that everyone, including men have felt that way. We all have felt inadequate at one point or another in our lives, powerless and frustrated, and that the journey is about being more to ourselves and finding someone who can appreciate the struggle and the sacrifices we’ve gone to get to this point. Unfortunately, you’ll never have that opportunity cause when it comes up, it’s always too late. That wild and fun little girl, who became so distant and rebellious, and matured to be so strong and understanding wasn’t like that in a day. That your grandmother only became your grandmother because she travelled so far and did so much. Luck and love are a matter of perspective and timing, and I wish oh so many more people would value the time given to them and the opportunity we have to interact with so many people in this extremely finite moment in time.

Her stage energy, her interactions with the crowd, everything. 😍✨ I drug my boyfriend to the concert with me and he had no idea who she was. We were in the very front basically leaning on the the stage. This past week, she’s been all he’s listened to and he can’t stop taking about it. A very good friend of mine actually sent me this song and whenever we send each other music, we usually give the other feedback with our thoughts. He hyped the song up so much before I even listened to it and I remember listening to it and thinking to myself, "WTF undiqhela kakubi uSinalo because andiyiva kwalento iculwa apha" (those were my thoughts in Xhosa, I'm Xhosa from the Eastern Cape, South Africa) honest to God, as confused as I was about what was being said, I was in love with the song. He later sent me the English version of the lyrics and I fell deeper in love with it, than I had been when I was listening to it for the first time. This is goes to show that you don't need to understand what is actually being said for you to appreciate good music.

The register she sings in. Such a demanding one. Her range and reach is rare even for the most talented. Her timbre and the way she shifts undertone and vibrato are beyond fairly well ALL this generations capabilities. Oh, and... No autotune No heavy processing No tricky 2/3/4 tracking her own voice to fill Unlike so many of today's "stars". Jessie will make a mark, bet on it. Maybe a Spanish speaking follow up to Amy Winehouse? Someone to watch, I think.
