Philip Yancey: A remarkable thing happens in Wembley Stadium that night. 70000 raucous fans fall silent before her aria of grace. By the time she reaches the third verse, "'Tis grace has brought me safe this far, And grace will lead me home," several thousand fans are singing along, digging far back in nearly lost memories for words they heard long ago.Jessye Norman later confessed she had no idea what power descended on Wembley Stadium that night. I think I know. The world thirsts for grace.

I was there and walking up the steps to leave as Dire Straits were walking off stage. How do you stop thousands of people leave? Hear this lady using her voice to fill a massive Stadium, thats how. She sang and everyone stopped. I saw people jaws drop in wonder.

Last page of Philip Yancey's book brought me here too. Jessye Norman delivers a powerful and moving rendition of this life changing song. There is love and forgiveness in Jesus and I couldn't make it in this life without Him.

Great - but the US still is a cesspool of rascist6 hatred - what does your Mr Yancey say about that? Can't help but notice his Wikipedi page is VERY SHORT

Listened to a message by Chuck Swindoll "Jesus: The Gift of God's Grace". Chuck usually shares unforgettable stories -- so to "see" one of them is even better! Thank you for Stevebullit for sharing with us.

I am fortunate to live near Tanglewood. The summer home of the Boston Symphony. Also, a preeminent "camp" for music protegees. Ie Yo-Yo Ma. Whether schooled or not. Lucky to see Jessye Norman twice. During a rain/thunder storm, the two argued about continuing. They did. However hilariously, the restrooms were near the stage building and we could hear Jessye Norman keeping her voice warm. Kind of a weird additional concert. Lol.

How can you compare this two perfect voice? I love both in the same way, 'couse they had a so different color of voice, and the same technical perfection. In some grade of excellence is not very kindly to say "blew her of the water" :) Maria Callas was a piece of history in the opera, very different by Jessye Norman, but I don't think she is less perfect, for me they are perfect in their difference :)

I could never quite fall completely for such a wretch whose work may have had alot of very dicey behavior along some tracks synonymous with a cost one found to be irrestible , but there is alot to be said for what is constantly in need for no good reason !
