Funny story….. back in the late eighties I was working at Marshal Music in east Lansing Michigan and ended up selling a piano to her brother for his son. Jessye had suggested that they should purchase a piano for her nephew who showed an interest in music. Her brother gave me an autograph after the piano was delivered because I gave him a great deal on the piano!

Such a simple melody sung with such elegance and style. Appropriate that this greatest of singers should have a Christmas Carol named for her. This should be in every hymn book across America. Everyone can sing this simple refrain "Truth and Love Abide, This Christmastide". Tears.

This is such a beautiful carol , The way that Miss Normans voice embraces it makes it so achingly beautiful. I have also heard this done as a choral piece but nothing replaces Miss Norman-
Precious Jessie Norman. What an ineffably beautiful voice. She will be singing in GLORY.

Green and silver, red and gold, and a story born of old Truth and love and hope abide this Christmastide, this Christmastide Holly, ivy, mistletoe, and the gently falling snow Truth and love and hope abide this Christmastide, this Christmastide From a simple ox's stall came the greatest gift of all Truth and love and hope abide this Christmastide, this Christmastide Children sing of peace and joy at the birth of one small boy Truth and love and hope abide this Christmastide, this Christmastide Let the bells ring loud and clear, ring out now for all to hear Truth (truth and) and love (love and) and hope (hope) abide (bide) this Christmastide, this Christmastide Trumpets sound and voices raise in an endless stream of praise Truth and love and hope abide this Christmastide, this Christmastide Green and silver, red and gold, and a story born of old Peace and love and hope abide this Christmastide, this Christmastide

why is it an american woman born in Georgia has to use this "euro" voice… would like to hear her just sing it straight - she isn't the only one who does this "style" seems forced…
@gildakrau8 жыл бұрын
timothyj1966 Jessye Norman - unique after Maria Callas - is known and appreciated not only for her magnificent voice, but also for her ability to sing perfect idiomatically in German, French, Italian and English.
@gabik333338 жыл бұрын
Additionally, this beautiful Christmas carol was written especially for her.
@Roheryn1004 жыл бұрын
It isn’t “euro” , whatever THAT is. It’s classical training and perfect enunciation that doesn’t cater to regional accents.
@nigelmurfitt8694 Жыл бұрын
its classical training and italianate vowels which are perfect to resonate around a large hall or opera house without the use of microphones.
@Roheryn10011 ай бұрын
Probably one of the downvotes. I suspect it’s her not knowing her proper place in “Georgia” . 🙄
