Well he still was I guess is the principle message here - he feels what he does is necessary (ironically for the same reason as Caiaphas "for the sake of the nation") and is chewed up with guilt after because even if it was God's will and for the greater good, he has still betrayed a friend and a good man to death.

drew sarich’s judas on stage as a character is very different. i liked how he was very vulnerable for more of the show (this can be seen in hosanna specifically). he seems to care a lot for jesus and that’s why it’s such a contrast to see him making fun of jesus in superstar. i think he’s great as an actor, from his decision to always watch and follow jesus to his obvious vocal talent. i could literally almost sink my teeth into some of his notes. fantastic, my favorite judas ever.
@jakeqwaninne8502
@jakeqwaninne8502 3 жыл бұрын
yes but judas is of the mind that jesus is wrong,, and is the accuser, he is suposed to be arrogant and beligerant,,, besides he's been kind of taken over and manipulated to help manifest the end result,, so he isn't suposed to be vulneraable

The 2012 JCS Arena Tour was impressive. Ben Forster as Jesus and Tim Minchin as Judas - simply incredible! Ben Forster sang the best “Gethsemane” I’ve ever heard! Most often, viewers comment on Jesus and Judas, how well or how bad the artist has embodied his character. But few emphasize how unrealistically admirable King Herod is in this production. For some reason, a negatively charismatic, but poorly singing and dancing person is most often chosen for this role. This performance is a rare exception. It's a shame that the video quality leaves much to be desired…

There's been a lot of renditions of JCS, but this just has a lot of stuff that I really like that the others don't. Surely nothing can master the original Neely version, but it's just something about the choreography, certain singers they picked and the whole presentation of it that is just amazing. Sarich and Herod are just amazing, exceptional singers, I cannot stop listening to them. The only problem I have is Jesus, I really hate saying this because I don't like being mean, but Jesus was just not a good choice or a good voice. Someone commented saying his acting was empty and not a good singer for JSC, I sadly have to agree with this, to be Jesus you need to have a certain power in your voice and you need to have a power in your voice to really hit the pitch of the notes, playing mighty Jesus means hitting mighty notes. Maybe he's suited for another musical, but he's not suited for this one. Honestly I think Sarich should have played Jesus, he did an amazing cover of Gethsemane and then find someone else for Judas. Other than that, this is amazing. I wish I could have been there seeing it live.
@MrVictorPhineas
@MrVictorPhineas 10 жыл бұрын
Agreed, but don't take Sarich away from Judas. In JCS Judas is kind of the main character and needs the vocal power Sarich has. But seeing the fact that he is such an amazing singer you need a voice which has the power to counter Judas' parts.

Drew Sarich (playing Judas) is no Ted Neely or Carl Anderson... but he doesn't need to be. He is Drew Sarich and he is the best Jesus/Judas since the iconic Neely and Anderson. His voice is perfect for both roles (search: Drew Sarich - Gethsemane) .. Too bad the Jesus here was not up to snuff... the cast did a good job (music/dance) .. Drew Sarich steals the show with his amazing voice.. but Jesus is just "meh". Sarich deserves a better Jesus.

There is no Resurrection in the Opera. It covers the last 3 days of Jesus' Life. It was done on purpose. However the last orchestration is called John 19:41 'At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid.' Many times people have this projected on a screen or spoken to appease Christians who can't see past their own bias. Before you bash me. I am a Pastor and I accept the show for what it is. An Opera loosely based on Scripture. and one persons view of that episode in history.

Jesus doesn't and would not require us to do so . Watch the movie of this . When his decyples sing and ask , When to we Take Rome ??? " Why are you obsessed with fighting " And yes , There are people who claim to be Christians , that condemn and discriminate , I'm not denying that . But those people never got the message that we are to be passive , full of grace , and be at peace . " He who lives by the sword , dies by the sword " Love , grace , forgiveness and compassion . The vocals are fantastic! Judas is really fantastic. I like him better then the original Judas from JCSS movie. Jesus was great with some songs. Has a beautiful voice, but he does not have the high range that Ted Neely did. He is over powered by judas and other cast. He needed to be much stronger to counter Judas. Yvonne Elliman as Mary Magdalene from the original movie had better range then this Mary. She is still good, but no match for Yvonne! Very well choreographed. Very enjoyable! Best version I have seen since the movie and original play.

The Wizard highly recommends this Filmed Stage Version , a surprisingly incredible Chorus and the dancers are really good too.If you love this Musical as I do ,I still sing along to it just like when it first came out in the early 70's on any version, then enjoy this if you got a couple of hours to load up sing along !!!!!

Is anyone else freaked out by Annas (and his little hand fan)? I like that he's older than Caiaphas like he should be though. And should we be worried about Herod... at the beginning he sounds like he's on something.

After years of listening to this version, I learned to really appreciate the actor playing Jesus. He is great really and is a great partner to Drew's Judas. Also oh God, but the Orchestra and Assemble are top-notch as well. Just. The Austrians did an amazing job with this version and interpretation. Definitely one of my all-time favorites.

Okay, Drew Sarich delivers as Judas (and Jesus in the 2005 Wien Concert) but the guy as Jesus in this particular production is just not good at all. I don't believe any of the words coming out from him at all. And most importantly he didn't go to the high G in Gethsemane! :/

I feel very very bad, but I rolled my eyes when he was getting nailed to the cross. Just an awful actor all around. There's something wrong when you're looking forward to judas over jesus lol

This production would've been perfect if not for the guy that played Jesus. I'm sorry but he wasn't Jesus material. Drew, Pilot and Herod KILLED it.

I thought that was the most extraordinary production, clever in design, clever in musicality, I loved the way that the music become relevant and I applaud the singers who were better actors because they 'interpreted' the music.The visuals were stunning! Who directed this? Hats off...if one day I cou;d be like you...

I actually loved the play but it was the weakest performance on ghetsemane that I've ever heard i mean i am not asking for something close to Ted Neely but this guy was terrified to try the song with some passion.

Y all the haters?? I think, knowing this play then was 35 years old, it's a pretty good adaption. The temple scene is effective, albeit it has 21st century displays. I don't care for the industrial music in some parts, STILL GOOD!!

TY 4 sharing such a gr8 interpretation! Despite 'blonde' Jesus (Austria, sigh), won over by his awesome performance (tho not quite Ted Neeley)! Wonderful cast & features but didn't like Pharisees, esp Caiaphas.. chosen for bulk vs voice quality? TY again-so wish to have been there!

I loved this musical back in the 70's. Learned it from beginning to end. Really struck a chord in me. Haven't ever seen a stage production of it. Didn't like the movie; but I really like this. I was wondering if this music and singing is live, or pre-recorded? Very nice production.
