I think that this is the first time I heard a preacher point out that Jesus asked for a un-broke donkey. Thanks for all you share.

I love to hear about the Jesus who shocks and causes consternation because he does not care about expectations and about pleasing the crowds by playing never questioned social roles. He is truly and always himself - the Son of God with a divine mission. Thanks be to God for such a Saviour!

It wasn't until praying that closing prayer that I understood the message. I'm blown away--that was powerful.

Thanks, Paul. I remember this sermon and how much I enjoyed it the first time. Like a good story, even better the second time around because you already know the ending.

Listening to this, I am reminded somehow of Hemingway's short story "Today Is Friday". In it, a roman soldier says, "He didn't want to come down off the cross. That is not his play."

You’re a good teacher and preacher Mr VanderKlay. I needed to hear this message … I think I see but at times I’m actually blind. Good job sir.

Bad = taxing the foreigner but not your own. Good = lending at interest to the foreigner but not your own(Deuteronomy) I'm very confused. I never knew Romans didn't tax their own. Why would Jesus tell his flock to pay taxes to a foreign tyrant? Maybe it is a deliberately mistranslated expression?
@zurich56072 жыл бұрын
I feel like it’s a different matter. Rendering into Caesar is about giving to God what belongs to God. Christ isn’t much concerned with castigating the Romans because they didn’t follow Jewish monetary laws
@williambranch42832 жыл бұрын
Modern people don't understand, to them money is something digital in their debit card ;-) Jewish money can't be idolatrous, it can't have a human or animal image on it, or it is non-kosher. Do you view any money, as non-kosher, given that moderns worship money not G-d? The Tyrian shekels (with god Melkart on them) are the money of the Temple, are required (you have to change your bad money for good money before you donate), are blasphemy. The Jewish widow who donated two lepta (mites) ... those were kosher coins, and she donated all she had. The Roman coins in local circulation have the Emperor (as a god) on them, or show Roman religious implements, are blasphemy. Handling either of them, is blasphemy! The Temple priests and the Romans demand that the Jews blaspheme! Americans don't remember, that only a king has his face on the money, is Washington our king? Before that, only deities had their face on the money (until Alexander made himself a god). Is Washington our god? From a Jewish or Muslim perspective, our money is blasphemy! And this is why, in some respects, Saudi Arabia is a blasphemer too.

@@williambranch4283 I believe that the actual translation is give Caesar that which belongs to Caesar. Taxation is theft, aka don't pay taxes to a foreign tyrant just because his face is on your gold. If the money is usury(debt based fiat) it is a form of sin. I also don't consider the old testament to be Christian. Christ may have fulfilled the old prophecies, that doesn't mean the two sets of laws are congruent. The universalism of Christ is not compatible with Deuteronomy.
@williambranch42832 жыл бұрын
@@3rdwaveredpill144 I agree that Jesus is Jewish, not Christian, but your anti-tax POV is not Jewish, neither is your POV on usury (which only applies to Gentiles). Hence the Gentile/Christian interpretation of the NT, is just as problematic as is the Gentile/Christian interpretation of the OT ... unless you are saying, that all blasphemy belongs to Caesar ... which poetically in this context is true, since Caesar claimed to be Salvator aka G-d. Let all non-kosher things belong to the Gentiles, who are destined for Hell.

@@williambranch4283 I'm a gnostic not a jew. Lol at having to censor the word God. How righteous you must be to self censor to that degree. I remember looking up the noahide laws online, saw that format for writing God, and realized how truly lost the Jews are.

Show any reason why the bible should be taken as anything more than historical fantasy. The authorship of the gospels are unknown, read your book, it mentions this in the preface. The bulk of the book was written by multiple authors, taking from different sources over more than a thousands years, and has been edited heavily into its current modern compilation of books.
