Between indie and early acid house warehouse parties... one of the best chilled out indie tracks ever! ❤

I don’t really give a stuff about what the song is about, but the music and the vocals and that very ghostly synth have been part of the wallpaper of my mind since I first heard it. Truly wonderful

That makes no sense at all?! The music the vocals everything... this is a a great track, one of the best by these guys! Back in the very, very early 90's 👌👍

Found the cassette someplace when 17. Went to prison for many many years. Got out and bought smart phone. Gotta love youtube and the window it provides for retrospective melancholy. I miss the 90's. Jonrock1977

I think you've all missed the message of the song. Its about the late Margret Thatcher and her ideals of a new Victorian culture in a modern age.

Thatcher was elected because government had such a stranglehold over the economy that nothing worked by the late 1970s. That's why the winter of discontent happened. The Thatcher government freed up the markets and things worked again. When government runs the economy people are impoverished.
@FINNSTIGAT0R2 жыл бұрын
@@Anon54387 and when the government takas a total hands off approach very bad things happen too - From the UK a good example is the Irish potato famine, which the government could've, if it really wanted, made much much easier on the people who instead died of starvation because the government at the time had a laissez faire approach to the economy. "The markets will solve such problems". Well, they kinda did, through unnecessary suffering of people who already had a very poor life full of hardship. It's about finding the right balance between two tyrannies - the tyranny of the government or the markets. The more things are taken into either direction, the more ordinary people suffer.

This song released in 1990. It is a "sounding" against social conformity or freedom of expression. Investigate socialism in it's entirety: Spain 1930s, Germany 1920s. Russia and Eastern Europe. Investigate the culture of 1890 London....
@FINNSTIGAT0R2 жыл бұрын
Actually it's not about that at all, it's a UK specific song about the rise of new conservatism in the spirit of the Victorian era, but I'm not going to say people can't attach their own meanings to it.
